For the first time I tried forward flight. I've got a li'l less than 40 hours of sim time under my belt with a few trex 450 variants. I'm about twenty packs in on my blade 400
It was amazingly akin while I shuffled it from side to side. I finally went for the figure eight.
It was just alike, so I edged up on the throttle and gave it a li'l more forward input. I came out of the first half, and leveled off, Just like the sim! Upon entry of the second turn my nose picked up in a small gust and I made the mistake:
I put the nose down, to counter the wind picking it up. The wind helped me so much. and it went for a nice perpendicular nose dive. ouch. 30-40 dollar crash for me. Something like that with a main shaft, spindle shaft, woodies, etc etc.
Time for a nice long trip to the LHS.
First attempt FF.

I read somewhere on this forum( I think) that us new pilots should try our new stuff " 3 mistakes high". This was great advice. Now , when I try something new I get the heli high enough that I can get the tail pointed at me and recover before I crash.Of course , I still crash ocasionally, but not as much as I used to.....

Good try. Take it slow, and get more hours on that sim! I can't talk much since I have only flown twice, but keep it up!

That's the one thing I haven't figured out how to replicate in the sim (G3.5 for me):
Gusts of wind really launch this bird, but they don't in the sim.
And if you get a tail-wind gust (in FF), it really drops quick.
I can't figure out how to make sim wind have that same effect.

Try +15mph and see how close of a feel that is for you. I Tryied to replicate the wind at my work and it felt the same as the wind in G4 at 16mph.

Remember.. wind gives you lift. It's your thumbs that over compensate and drop the heli.
Flying idle up helps give more authority in wind even if your not into 3D yet.
Keep the heli stable if a gust hits, hold the throttle steady and resist the urge to kill it ...then ease out of the throttle to bring it back down.. before long a 15mph wind is easy to fly in and actually quite fun.

Somebody I know is like you and rushing the flight experience - no names (SCOLEX) I congrat you both for the nads, but I am a scardy cat and go SLOWER. Ya'll will probably learn faster than me in the long run but it will cost you more.
Agreed higher head speed escpecially in winds - tried idle up - it was okay but not good to learn idle up in winds. I went back to throrrle curve 75-75-75-87.5-100 can stay pretty stable in winds, a little challenging with gusts but its fun.

I was flying in Idle up with a 100-90-80-90-100, that's how I stripped the main gear:clappp. But, the funny thing is it was my Wife:flamedevil who egged me on; and she was taping it. :FThat
Can't wait to post the video.

Not looking forward to see the crash (you can leave that out if you like) but I would love to see the flight before the disaster.

BTW: My cyclic servos have failed(not because of the crash) What's with these things?

LMAO Only 1 crash here and when I go 3d inverted on my 3rd flight and only crashed once due to them damn servos then we shalll see who is king! Slower = no strippin gears! I can hover all day too. Just messin with you! You fly very well! With new metal gears then I have no.. but the wind did it! LMAO Lets see that 600!!!!!!

It's (600) almost done, I have a prob that I cant figure out, now matter the length of the rods or radio programming the throttle is maxing out at mid stick

its a Turnigy - I think I figured out my stupid mistake ---- suppose to center (90) everything at mid stick, which I have it set at 0 stick ---- argh!
