Trying to decide if I should leave well enough alone or swap my tailrotor to the correct side on my 500E build. Some say nobody will ever notice..... What do you guys think?
This one is being built to be used, not to win a contest.

Just curious, where is the divide line? That is, spin the main blades the otherway for scale look? Please dont take this as offense, I like scale stuff, realy cool. I just dont understand some of the grumpy guys that comments and fold their arms when something is not 100% scale...
ok, I turned this into a rant, sorry, no dont bother to flip the tail. just my 2 cents

Enough said! You already know the answer.

Just flip it... it's too easy not to do it...;)

It is up to your preference on whether to flip it or not.
If u want to flip it over, flipping to the left does not cause any problem. If u worry about tail authority weak, if u set/flip the tail blade grip properly, it should not be any problem.
U can either remain as it is or go a slightly different from other by having tail rotor on the correct side. If u want to be even more different (or more accurate to real one), u can even change your main rotor to spin counterclockwise.

Depends on the heli you're "modeling"
Here's a 500D with the TR on the right side:

and the same heli, with it on the left side:

Huh??
Never seen that before! Are you sure that image hasn't been flipped?
'Course it is a 'D' with a 5 blade main and 4 blade tail, so I guess anything is possible...

I'm sure that photo is a reverse image print from the negative.
Bad karma?

"Prior to the impact, there was no noticeable change in the sound of the helicopter and it appeared to be under power and full control of the pilot. Examination of the helicopter did not reveal any preimpact mechanical malfunctions of either the airframe or engine. The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The pilot's failure to maintain an adequate visual lookout and obstacle clearance altitude, which resulted in a collision with power lines."

Oh man...that sucks.........
The first one I picked to model, after I did a search on it I found that it had crashed with one fatality. So I moved to another choice.

Well, made up my mind. The tail rotor is now on the other side. With a little luck, my fuselage will be in on Monday or Tuesday!

So, how are you mounting the tail rudder servo, to fit inside the fuselage?
Photos?

Based off someone else's project, I elected to go this route. Hopefully the Fuselage will be in Monday or Tuesday and I can find out if it'll fit!

Think you're gonna find the tail servo has to be on the bottom to fit. And a question -- why the big "z" bend at the tail? Now you're going to have to slot the fuselage boom for an exit. Why not just extend the flex tube past the vibration foam? Worked for me. Smooth travel and no slots. Just curious. Still waiting for the Lightning 5 blade head to arrive, so can't say yet how it is going to work.

There was plenty of room for the servo on top on my MD500. Remember he is working with the 50 size, not the 450...

Nothing is set in stone yet, awaiting arrival of fuselage....then changes may be needed. I have seen another heli with the servo up top and it worked on his. I'm more concerned with the Ail. servo hitting the fuse....
Yep - the elevator servo is the one that gave me issues. It controls how high up you can move the mechanics. It runs into the curve of the fuselage the farther aft/up you go.

I have those big servos that come with DX-7, I may have to get some different servos. I'll be at the Huntsville fun fly this weekend, so if I decide to replace them....I'll be at the right place to get some!
Hi Wren......nice project any pics of the completed item ?
I did a 500e with the Hurricane mechanics and also debated the tail rotor.......left mine but did need to slot the fuse for the rod.
Worked out acceptable!
Look forward to the pics

Do you guys change the rotor direction also or just flip the tail?
