well im going tomorrow to try out the z20 on 14t pinon and 42t main gear... if its still not enough power for me i might sell the gaui 50amp esc and buy the align 75a and try out my rcp1100 and see what kind of times i get out of that one

I got much better performance dropping the pitch curves and flying the z20 with a 16T, (42/61) and 20T OWB. The 15T and straight or higher pitch curves seemed to bog a lot more for whatever reason, even though it should have had more torque. It just seemed to me that the bogging was more power based/related than head speed based/related and when i went to the 16T and raised but flattened the throttle curve to get a higher base head speed, some of the bogging went away. Let me know how your testing goes with it if you swap out the motor or adjust the pinion and curves.

well i had the 16t pinon on there with the 50t main gear but there was no performance at all... true i could fly a long time but had no power, with my current setup i should get around 2200rpm. hopefully it wont bog alot but im gonna bring the gears to the field just in case :) so i dont loose a nice flyin day

I've never swapped out the 42 or 61 gears, only the owb and pinions. Make sure you take some loctite to the field with ya! Happy flying! :)

this may be a stupid question but can you change the timing on the gaui 50amp esc?
i was looking at the instructions and it doesnt say anything about it
Hi Michael, i noticed you never got an answer regarding your question on the Gaui 50amp esc.
I'm in the same boat and the instructions are beyond crap. Did you work out how to set this unit up because I'm stuffed if i can:dontknow
All i can do is use it as it came out of the box and i have absolutley no idea if it's doing what it should be. I'm only at the hovering stage anyway so at least it flies. thanks

all you can do with the gaui is set the battery and gov mode... i got my tax return so i think im gonna sell the gaui 50amp and buy a scorpion 90amp that i can program

think the gaui esc defaults to mid timing... at least I hope it does :D

Great topic, guys. You guys know your stuff, and I'm hoping I can a) get some advice on my setup, and then b) report my findings to help find the perfect setup. :)
Can you advise on what I should change to get optimal duration flights. My style is total novice. Figure 8's and attempts at FFF, but no intention of loops or rolls or anything that a real (Average) heli can't do - yet.
I got the Z20 9xxkv engine on mine, 13T pinion and then all the standard stuff youi got on the CF package... It had the bigger gaui engine, but I downgraded to the Z20 to improve flight times and save my packs. I have a Trex600 400mm flybar, and Raptor 50 skids... The rest is stock standard. The packs are 2100 20c packs, but I have 2 Kong Power 2200 packs on order...
I was getting 6 minutes flight time. Packs cold, engine cold... Taking around 75% from the packs. These were based on hovers. I didn't fly about.. it was just to test flight duration. With the original 1100kv engine, Iw as getting 4 minutes, and VERY hot packs and engine..
Can't recall my pitch/throttle (My heli is in a container somewhere between South Africa and Australia right now), but I think my pitch was linear, -4 degrees to +9, and a low head speed on the head... I'd like to up the headspeed... maybe 0, 60, 70, 90, 100 or something, but... that will kill my flight times, no?
What should I do about gearing, and .. the ESC is set to default (75A). What should it be set to?
I have tested the stock 50A ESC and Jeti spin 66 ESC on Z30A, the stock ESC is like perform 60% of the Jeti ESC.
I believe is the default timing of the stock ESC doesn't match well with the Z30A.

Move up to at least a 14t pinion...you will still get good flight times and a little better headspead.
With 2100 and 2200 packs 6 mins is about all you will want to push the lipos.
Once you get settled in and fly it then post your results...you also need to set up your idle 1 higher than 70 at mid point and also move your normal up also....to 80 or so...
good to see you back on....haven't seen a post from you for quite a while.

Thanks!
OK, pinion on order. :) Just need the yheli to connect it to. :)
Yeah, been away, as listening/reading you guys having a ball with your helis is pretty sadeening, while I wait for my (delayed) ship to arrive...
I went to a field with a mate here in Australia, and saw hardcore 3D flight for the first time in real life. Man, these guys and you boys have BALLS!! They were flying modified Trex600e's but man, these helis can be thrown about! Two of them were un believable... First time I've seen tick toks... inverted hovers cutting grass... flying about backwards... Man... it was pretty amazing... And the noise the blades make when doing quick movements... VERY cool...
Sorry, a bit off topic... Got carried away! :happyd

i dont think the gaui 50amp esc is set to mid timing because if it was then people using the z30 or rcp or gaui would probably be getting around the same times as he is, most people i know that use it are getting around 2-3min of time on 2200 packs, not 5 min

I hope the Gaui 75a ESC at least defaults to mid timing....that's the ESC I'll be getting with my Hurri... all I can find on the net is programming info for the 12a and 50a esc..and there's not much of that available.. nothing on the 75a other that it's made by the same company that makes the Align 75a

Stock 50A ESC or CC85HV same times I get on Z20 and Z30. I don't think another ESC will give you that much more in flight time.
Z20 motor is great for training, keep it till you get good at invert flights, funnels, forward and backward flights etc. Gives extra long flight time with 3300 packs. Keep the woodies on as they are excellent smashers for the bucks.
Z30 if you get bored, but carbon blades (among other things) is a must at 2400 HS. I might try 50T front gear and reduce HS and put the woodies back on, so no fear of smashing any more carbon blades. Went through 2 sets this month already. :DOHI miss that $29 per smash!

hey i was wondering what throttle response speed do you have it set at with the align 75amp on a z30?
