I had a litle accident today with my new lipo :( I accidently made a short circuit on my lipo with a screwdriver, my brain wasn't working correctly but I had abit of trouble with pulling the dean contact out and I had a screwdriver in my left hand so I used it. well it came some lightnings and then I placed the lipo in a tin can in the midle of my garden. and there it is now. not sure if it have bubbled up or not. So if it hasnt bubbled up and seems to be fine should I discard it anyway?
Sorry for my bad english im just a blond swede you know ;)

get some salt water(you should know how to make it...) toss it in there and it will discharge it. leave it for a few days to FULLy discharge. then you can just toss it.

proper disposal for lipos is to use a knife or screwdriver and punch holes into the foil around each of the cells. Once you do this you put it in a bucket of salt-water for about 1 week. After this you can safely discard it in your regular trash. A recyclying center won't take it if they know what it is.

so like what's in it that the recyclers won't take it? if they won't is it really safe for a landfill?

Are you seriously going to blow the lipo after a small arch? I'd check to make sure it was ok.. like throw a balancer on it, charge it back up on .25-.5 setting before I would pitch a brand new lipo..!
And yes, you can safely dispose the lipo after it has been in salt water for several days. You don't have to pucture them. Only if you like the show..
Its a polymer and not a metal.. so what's to recycle.?

The first two lipo's I bought.. I got rid of them by soaking them in saltwater because they wouldn't work anymore with my rex. Then the 3rd one.. I kept along with all my other lipo's . They make great batt's for a homemade cordless starter for nitro's. .

I have a Swede at work. as you might guess, I call him The Swede.
Anyway, if the cells are not puffed, it might be okay. Check the volatge of each cell. If they are close, toss it on a charger, watch it the whole time, and if it charges without incident. It is probably okay. A sustained short circuit kills lipos, a quick spark probably doesn't (but make sure).

I have shorted a few lipos and they turned out to be fine. At least check 'em out (safely) before getting rid of them.

If you gonna use that method, it's safest to use something non conductive to puncture the cell. I'm not really sure its a good idea to puncture it at all.

There is nothing in it to recycle that is worth anything. Once you neutralize it with saltwater soaking there isn't anything really left of use. So you can take it to the recycler and they can do nothing with it except throw it in the trash, or you can save your gas and throw it in your trash.

Thanks guys for all the good tips! the lipo seems to be fine. the V on the cells are pretty close but Im not sure yet becouse the store where I bought the charger bc6 was out of balance cable for the align batteries and I have been to lazy to go to an other store. RC stores are not so common around here.
Any way what lipos are you guys using for your T-rex 450 with the 430xl engine? have you guys tried the cheap lipos from hobbycity.com? the loong Max lipo seem to get pretty good ratings and I saw some thread were they talked pretty good about them aswell. what do u think?

best bang for your buck with solid performance is the KP 2200's great batteries. Readyheli is running special 2 for $120 or 2 + charger (value150) for $199

Hold it a second. Are you talking about an Align 2100mah, 22c, 11.1v Lipo that came with the kit ? If so, it probably wasn't going to last that long anyway. Still check it out before you write it off. Second for the KP from RaedyHeli for a good pack for the 450.

i have a few 1800 20c loong max's that i run on my trex with the 430xl and they come down at about 110* with 20% charge left on my cellpro charger. i only run a 12t pinion though.

Shoot, wish I had never seen this thread, I saw this once, and thought about it, but I resisted temptation. Now I have to order one. This, with the charger I have, I can charge 4 packs at once. At least this way, it's equivalent to a free pack. What the heck, why not. ReadyHeli, here I come.

well yes Im talking about the Align 2100mah but it's only 20c, probably the same anyway.
Yea I have heard that aligns lipos blows up pretty easy.

The 20c is supposed to be better, I have two of those they sent as replacements, haven't flown them much. I just oredered the KP Lipo/Charger combo from Readyheli also. Normally I use FP packs, but I just couldn't resist.
