Hello All!
Just wanted to see if anyone can help me out with where I can find a spartan flask link? Would it be possible to make my own flash link? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!!

Good luck, I have looked everywhere, it seems they are out of stock. The question of making our own is interesting... I would not think this would be difficult??

The link is proprietary per Angelos so making one probably isn't possible.

Not quite proprietary Bob. I made one base on the cable you loan me.:)

The next question is: Is it legal?

Angelos?

It wouldn't be illegal unless you started trying to sell it, I would imagine.

As far as I can see, the flash link cable is simply a USB to Serial interface, which
means in theory, you could just buy a USB to serial cable and then if you could
find out which pins its talking on, it would probably work. Of course you'd also need to work out various settings such as baud rate, stop bits, flow control etc before the software
would work with it.

Probably easier just to buy one :)

It would be perfectly legal to manufacture and sell the link. Someone needs to start selling these for $15.

Thats not cool. Angelos is such a nice guy, answering questions about his excellent products here one the forums all the time. And now you want to start making pirate copies of his stuff!?
I for one don't like that at all!
I have the 760, but have not gotten hold of a Flashlink yet. And I'll rather wait for it to be available!!
btw. my 500 and 760 with 9254 is a perfect combination for my lame flying, with or without the flashlink.

please, come on now... They make a fantastic product and the "you" go and punish the company because it is so good???

If the gyro stunk, the'd be plenty in stock and then this would'nt be a problem but, yeesh, I am sure that spartan is working overtime on getting their products into peoples hands.

What you do on you own time is you business but, don't advertize piracy!

I dont want to sell it I just want to program my 3 gyros that I have purchased! Fireup how did you make it I have tried but I cannot seem to get the correct wiring config. can you post the config you used (I.E. in the USB cable i made i have a red wire, black wire a white wire and a green wire, which one did you use as signal, positive and negitive?

Im not trying to punish Spartan im just trying to use the products i have already paid for!

Exactly !

The intellectual property rights are in the gyro, not a patch cord.

Punishing people is when you force them to buy your unique patch cord instead of a standard patch cord. A lot of companys do this which is no big deal, but you can not fault the end user for wanting a cheap and simple alternative.

First I would like to say, I never meant to undermine Angelos. I know he is not making any money selling the cable. It IS a special type of USB-to-Serial cable. To make your own will cost just about the same. I was able to get it to work so fast because I already have another USB-to-Serial cable made for something else that works similar to his. You can not just simply hook up the USB wires directly as it seems someone have already tried. If posting the pinouts or another way to connect to the gyro will piss off Angelos then I won't do it.

So as Leeph said, Probably easier just to buy one.

Fair enough! would it be possible to borrow one from a fellow heli freaker or possible to buy one from a freaker?

Or angelos can I purchase one direct from you? i have over $600 worth of your gyros and no way to unlock their potential:arggg::arggg:

I have no problems with people tinkering with their equipment, or even share what they find with their friends. Thats what this hobby is all about.
But copying something and selling it.. Thats just not cool.
If fireup found out how to make a cable for himself, good for him! And if Angelos says its okay to share this info, even better!!
Remember Spartan is a tiny company (just two guys in England?, not Microsoft or Sony Music), lets help them survive and make even better products in the future!! (they might not even need help since their stuff is so good)
Ah well, I'll stop now..

Good man Kevin..... Wait to see what Angelos says. I think he would be worried that if someone messed up the cable and fried the gyro, he would get bad gyros back and have to eat the cost.

Yes... Kevin has it now but I can ship it to you early next week. You pay shipping both ways and USPS 3 day Priority mail is about $3.50 for this little thing. From here to AZ would be 1 dayI bet!

It is kind of annoying that you can't use the features you payed for, especially because this bloody cable is in stock nowhere...

I am dissapointed with that. Making an extra buck is fine, but come on, this is ridicolous. I've been trying to get a cable for months now. Being in Europe doesn't help apparently.
What so difficult in the process to make enough of them?

Is Spartan having the Aurora syndrome?

Sorry, needed to let some steam off. If it would cost me as much to make the cable then to buy it, that would be fine, at least I can have one then.
