I listen to the entire podcast. Other than who they were talking about I listened to them talk about turning off the DX radio without unplugging the model and the ESC spins up. :DOHCLEARLY they don't know what they are talking about. It's called setting up FAIL SAFE. They are blaming the ESC but the real issue is they didn't set up fail safe for throttle properly.
Then it cracks me up about smoking and nitro! TRY to light up even 30% with a cigarette! NOT going to happen and I have tried it. In fact try to light 30% heli Nitro fuel even with a BIC lighter! Nitro fuel is not a heavy evaporating fuel and thus fumes are not a big deal like gasoline... Remember even gasoline doesn't burn without oxygen and the fuel has to be able to evaporate fast enough to put fumes in the air to ignite! Gasoline is VERY capable of doing this but because nitro-methanol is combines with a lot of oil, it doesn't do that.
I know the guy they talk about that hit himself with a TRex 600E. He lives near me and I saw his hand. They don't have the facts right but I wont go into that.
Anyway I loved the "He's a menace and he is going to hurt someone"..... Yep and CLEARLY you know who they are talking about with his flying in the street in front of his house doing out of control flips! And no I doubt they woke him up!
GREAT JOB there Chris!

Who are they talking about at 35:00? ;)
Their whole podcast thing remind me of the Saturday Night Live skit about the two girls that have a cable show about sewing.:rolling

Thanks to Big Fil for bringing that one to our attention. He told me about it in chat last night and when they got to the "menace" part, I was cracking up!
Wonder if I should risk the 7 day ban over on RCG and post it there. :)

Too late. :)
[edit] Popped back over there to see the responses and got a PM from JustPlaneChris asking "So just who do you think I was talking about? :)" lol

They don't understand momentum. A small prop doing 30k isn't necessarily more dangerous than a larger prop moving slower. They also compared it to a blender--which uses metal blades. They get the idea accross I guess--they're all dangerous.

Hey guys!
First, thanks for listening to the show. We appreciate it. :)
Bob, I sometimes DO actually know what I'm talking about. ;) I guess I didn't explain myself very well, but what my friend did was set up his failsafe before screwing around with his throttle curves and endpoints, then didn't rebind afterwards. So in effect, he didn't have failsafe set at zero throttle.
EDIT: I just realized you're talking about Diggs' story with his friend's T-Rex and his little twin. What I was talking about above is in a different episode. Yep, most likely he had no failsafe set, though I have had instances where the ESC spun up even WITH failsafe properly set (ESD related reboots).
I also do know that nitro fuel isn't as flammable as gasoline, but come on.. let's be real here. It's not a good idea to smoke around ANY flammable liquid. Are you really bashing me because I said people shouldn't smoke while fueling or defueling? It may not be a rule at your club (it is at mine) but it's just common sense!
The information I had about the Trex 600 accident was based on a very brief post I read from the gent himself. Sorry if I didn't have all the facts there. It sounded ugly.
Jared, thanks for your comments. Tangling with ANY prop or rotor is a Bad Thing. I don't think we're proposing that a small prop at 35K is any more (or less) dangerous than a bigger slower one. They all bite, and I've got the scars to prove it.
Thanks again for listening, guys! We want more heli content on the show, so if any of you guys have topic suggestions, or would like to be on the show and talk about engine tuning, throttle curves, or nitro governor setup just drop us an email.

Yea. It just sounded like you were saying they are more dangerous.
I'd like these topics covered:
Engine tuning
Mixing out ccpm interactions
That's all I can think of.
