Nice polishing. I wonder what would happen if people like you are going to make a custom frameset.

Nice polishing. I wonder what would happen if people like you are going to make a custom frameset.

You would get a "pretty" heavy frameset.

they are heavier than the stock frame but much easier to work on since you dont have to split the frames to change bearings or anything like that. this is the only set I have done in carbon. all the others were aluminum sides. which fair very well in a crash. ask me how I know this LOL. this was kind of a one off demo/prototype. more for advertising than anything. I dont plan to fly it. in fact its going to be for sale at Ircha with the catch that whoever buys it cant take delivery til Ircha is over.

The carbon should fair good in a crash like the aluminum. How much lighter are the carbon frames than the aluminum ones? Have you weighed them?

to be honest Will I dont know I didnt weigh it before I assembled it into a heli. it was more or less a project of " hey I havent done this yet" and of course the more I polished the more carried away I got. before I knew it everything was polished and there was a serious lack of plastic on this raptor. which we all know is uncommon. But it sure is sparkly. LOL I imagine the glare might be a bit annoying while trying to fly it. but I didnt really intend to fly it. its a hangar queen as far as I am concerned. it has a brand new Hyper 50 in it as well.

No the engine is pot metal and it doesnt polish at all. besides if I were to polish it. the engine would overheat in nothin flat because you lose all the surface area to cool with once you make it nice and smooth. so chroming isnt really an option either. but since Freezin Eskimo bought the heli from me at Ircha I dont need to do anything else to it since I dont own it anymore.

One question. Why did you leave the washout base plastic? That is one of the few parts of mine that I replaced because it developed a lot of slop in it. Just curious. Beautiful work by the way! :noteworthy

you got. yep i over looked that one.

The metal ones develop slop to. THe plastic get a little sloppy to a point and then stay that way for a long time. The metal ones get sloppy then keep getting worse and worse sloppy over time.

I wouldn't say that. I have one that was on my V1 raptor that I got several years ago. I moved it to my V2 after I finally crashed the V1 one so bad I just bought a new kit. It has hardly any slop in it. It has been going strong for many, many flights. I don't even know what brand it is but I think it has a brass bushing in the middle. The plastic one got very loose in a short time. It would rock back and forth so much that you could move the blades several degrees without the swash moving.

Yea you can really hear it in the blades when you go through 0 degrees when the WO gets that loose. Mine I described above were on R90 and I have seen Terry Bellanger wear out the metal ones on his R50.

I just checked mine and it has a tiny amount of slop in it but not much for as long as I have had it. I just thought also, it looks like it may be steel instead of aluminum. I'm not for sure though.
