i got my cc 85hv in last night. holy shit this thing is huge! it just might help me with my cg issue if i mount it towards the rear lol. it says you'll need to provide your own bec/regulator as this doesn't have one built in. that's fine, i've got an align 3 amp reg so i'm all set there. but i'm not too clear on whether i need to remove the middle red wire from the throttle channel connection. it doesn't say whether to do that or not in the manual, so i'm lost. thanks in advance.

if it doesn't have a built in regulator, then removing or leaving the red wire doesn't matter. if you haven't done it yet, I recommend the finless video on BECs.. he does a great job of explaining what they are and how to set them up. even how to use an external voltage regulator (what everyone calls a BEC) on a 6 channel receiver using the open sockets of the gyro gain plug.

i'm actually pretty good at setting it up, plus with the castle link it's even easier. i'm not going to set up gov mode quite yet, although i have downloaded and watched the 85hv vid. thanks for the quick reply, as i was waiting on that info to install and try it out.

Which motor do you have? I have the upgrade motor, 1100kV/150W, and I initially had some problems with spool up. I suggest setting motor start power to low, throttle response to medium and spool up to custom 1.

Also be prepared to adjust the belt tension in the tail every few flights at first. The belt stretches and this belt likes to be pretty tight.

thanks for all the kindly advice! i've been flying this bird since last december, so things like the belt tension and tail vibration i've already ironed out. i was running a phoenix 60, before i upgraded to the 85hv(i would have stuck with the phoenix 80, if i knew how damn big this thing is) because they call for a limit of six cells lipo, although i've run 7 cells lipo and 8 cells a123 with no problems on the 60amp. but i didnt't want to press my luck.
