Thanks for that. Have just ordered a DX6i to replace the stock pEsky 0406a - looking fwd to receiving it, and hopefully benefitting from its features.

Well done Mike:thumbup: a carefully researched, pondered and procrastinated choice.
I'm sure you won't regret it:)

LOL Thanks Ian, was just putting things off [financially] until the next month!!! Have found Uncle Bobs DX6 set up text - prob very useful. Might be knocking on your proverbial door if i have a problem though.......
LOL Shame about the inverted!!!!!!!

it has arrived. And there's a great start. Can't even work out which servo lead goes where on the new Rx????????!!!!!!!!!!
Why do they make things so difficult for us idiots???????

Sorry Mike Just been flying lovely it was too, Ive just dug out the manual but I'm going to have to go out in about 10 mins for an hour or so.
Ok plug the esc into THRO / right rear servo into AILE / left rear servo into AUX1 / front servo into ELEV
If your not sure about your new gyro would it be as well to set it up with your rate gyro?
If so plug this into RUDD.

Hi Mike how far have you got??

I have gotten nowhere. Not a blip out of the TX. have tried different batteries, but nothing. It is back in its box at the moment.

Never mind bro, I know it'll be worth the effort in the end, did you find the vid useful at all?

To a degree. Some of his explanations were very poor and downright confusing. Cant understand why the Tx will not power up. I suppose it should power up without the Rx and servos powered?
This is gonna be too much for me. I am struggling at the moment already. This electronics/computer stuff does not come naturally to me. And i thought the logic on our flight management computers was bad!!!
Plus, i keep crashing the bird..........

Sorry your so discouraged Mike
I'm willing to go through every step with you. I know it's worth the effort.
When your cast is off youll have a much better chance
I used this Vid by Finlesswhen I set mine up I found the info translated straight to the DX6i

So, have woken up with fresh head and hopefully fresh approach to setting about this. Have got theTx to light up [virtually invisibe bit of clear plastic found its way into the battery compartment!!!!] So you then have to connect all the servos to the Rx by trial and error to get them in the right spot?

Have had some good success so far, and have gotten to the gyro settings. I have the pEsky HH gyro fitted. What settings do I need in the "gyro" part of the "adjustments list" ??
Cheers,
Mike

Hi All:
I am also a newbe, and have just moved up from a FP to a Belt CP and DX6i. I am doing well with the setup of the system thanks to all of you on this thread. Have the pitch set and most of the other systems up and running correctly. However I am experiencing a problem with the Stock gyro settings, and DX6i Gyro settings. I spun the heli up to about 60% and as I starts to get light on the skids it spins rapidly around the center axis. If I input oppisit rudder, it will spin in the opposit direction, but will not stabilize. Any help will be suggested. I have not changed the settings on the Gyro or in the DX6i gyro settings.
Thanks in advance from a newbe,
Thanks

Glad youv'e found it usefull:thumbup:
Where have you plugged in the gyro ? Stock rate gyro should be plugged into RUDD on the RX the gyro input is for the gain lead on a head hold gyro,
Just try putting the reverse switch on the gyro the other way and see what happens

Morning Ian 777:
I am assuming that you mean the switch on top of the gyro. The stock gyro is plugged in to the Rudd .I will try that tonight after work.
Thanks

Thanks to everyone!!!! You guys ROCK!!! I watched the videos today (downloaded to my phone and watched them on breaks at work!!) and they are AWESOME!!! I already have all of the servos working in the correct directions (pitch included!) and I'm about ready to set my servo arms at 90 degrees. Man, is this WAAAYYY off right now!!! No wonder I haven't been able to fly this thing! The setup from the factory is COMPLETE garbage and not even close. I can't wait to get this setup completed with all of the upgrades on this thing...it should fly pretty well I'm thinking. Thanks so very much for the info. BTW...Flexbs....your recommendations on initial reverse setttings were DEAD ON accurate. They worked great the first time. I had to reverse the tail servo as well, but it's looking good so far. And Ian 777..... I am going to follow your recommendations for settings for my initial runup...thanks for breaking-down the video content in a condensed and easy to follow format. I'll let everyone know how it goes and I'm going to "give back to the community" by posting what I did to solve this problem in case there are other newbs scratching their heads on this one. You guys are awesome and Helifreak RULES!!!!
where do i find this video,on dx6i set up fpr the belt cp please?

As yet, there is no DX6i setup video, but there are several areas to seek help, all in the Finless Bobs Helifreak Tech Room. There you will find "Heli Skills and Setup 101", and the following are worthy of review whilst setting up the DX6i - and having just set mine up, these were exactly what I looked at, in association with "Ian777"s "Janet and John" summary [the latter just what I needed!!!!!!!]
Basics - ccpm 1 and 2
Radios - DX7 and DX6 text.
Hope this is useful, any queries, we're all here to help, mate.
Good Luck,
Mike
ps. you will have noticed many threads and topics on the DX6i and particularly its relationship with the pEsky HH gyro; the latter on-going. Many of us use the DX6i so most probs have already been resolved.

I finally got everthing right, flew the Belt today, the controlls are very sensative. Is there any way to get a softer center response while still getting full trow at full stick input with the TX settings.
First flight video, Passable flight. Did not break anything.

simply dial in some expo or dual rate values on your TX, positive expo values on the channels you want to tame will do just that. though many people prefer dual rate
Glad your getting sorted Ron:)

Ok Guys, lets see if I did the trouble shooting correctly for a bad gyro (http://www.rcuniverse.com/buynow/keywordclick.cfm?bid_id=5302).
I went out to fly and had tested all servo movement earlier in the day. Everything worked correctly.
When I connected the power the Gyro light acted normal, however when I moved the rudder stick, nothing happened with the rudder servo.
The RX light flashes slowly, and the Gyro light goes from fast flash to slow flash.
I removed the gyro from the loup, and plugged the servo directly into the RX.
The servo moved correctly.
When I put the gyro back in the loup, no rudder servo movement.
I would say that my Gyro is dead.
Do you all agree???
Thanks for the help.
Have A Great Day

It proves your rudder channel is functioning and it proves your rudder servo is functioning but it does not prove that your gyro is faulty. I would suggest that it proves one of two things. The gyro is faulty or perhaps that it is simply not initialising correctly. Since I am not familiar with your gyro I do not know what the lights indicate but a quick search should turn up the manual for you, where you will be able to check. With the stock gyro, failure to initialise is often related to nothing more complicated than the rudder trim or sub trims being a little off centre. The gyro detects this as stick input and will not initialise. Sorry if you were aware of this but I thought it certainly worth mentioning that it could be as simple as centring your rudder trim and or sub trim.

Evening Sutty:
Thanks for the addional advice. I had already made sure that the gyro/rudder trim and sub trim were set to center.
I got the replacement gyro in today. put it in and the rudder responds perfectly.:)
I did do a bind of the TX/RX after install just as a precaution.
One more question.
When the TX/RX are connected is are the LED's on the RX supposed to be steady, or flash slowly. The manual dose not really specify which.

Hi disney1
I don't know what receiver you have but I have a Spektrum AR7000 with additional satellite receiver. The lights on these are supposed to be solid, when bound correctly . I can only assume this will be the same with all correctly bound Spektrum receivers.
I often get a slow flash when I have trimmed during flight and then swapped batteries. This is still a bound condition and will fly, but I am able to correct it simply by following this sequence. Disconnect spent battery, powering off the the transmitter and then power it back on again, then connect the new battery.
I'm not entirely clear on why it does this but I think the flashing is to indicate that the fail safe servo positions are not set correctly because the model has been trimmed. I think the whole power cycling exercise just ensures that this is reset.
So assuming it is the same, I think it must be, solid orange lights is what you should be trying to achieve.
EDIT: Just found this on page 19 of the DX6i Manual:
4. Pull and hold the trainer switch on the top of the transmitter while turning on the power switch. Within
a few seconds the system should connect. The LEDs on the receivers should go solid, indicating the
system has connected.
So solid it is.
