agree...the hbk2 is a great first-ccpm heli...it will teach you how to setup, debug, mod, adjust, repair, upgrade, fly, repair, do aerobatics, repair, add bling, repair, etc...it reminds me of an inkjet printer -- they practically give it away because they know they'll get their $$ when you buy replacement ink cartridges...lol...ken

Thanks for the info!

I already have a Blade 400 that I'll be crashing, er, I mean, um, learning to fly on. I'll pass on the dude's King 1 then.

Isn't a Blade 400 like a $450.00 heli? You need to buy something less expensive b4 you go that route. Make sure to use a flight Sim for practice. You will learn the basic orientation of flying very quickly and spend ZERO money to fix the Helis after a crash. I am a Mega-believer in sims. I have been using FMS, G3.5 and Aerofly and I have come leaps and bounds over my flying skills from B4 I used the sims. I am actually looping my Kopter at only 2 1/2 months of flying.

The guy that made the comment about repairing them again and again. Very true, but you learn so much in a short time.

I fly King2 with Hyperion 3700kv,Dynam 30A ESC, Heli-Max carbon main blades(275mm), T-Rex "batwing" tail blades and 600 skids:)....I made a homemade battery tray to slant just in front of motor and other than that everything is stock even my radio.

****For those of you that run the **Plastic Stock Head** like I do. I posted a fix on RCU to eliminate the slop in the Fly-bar center holder. It costs ZERO $$$ for this fix. Just takes 5-10 minutes of easy labor. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6043372/mpage_158/key_/boarddown.asp (you might have to go back a few pages from this link)

Peace,

Too late. Already own the B400. :D

I got it at cost so I am not too stressed about having to fix it. Besides, the LHS has every part for it on the wall.

As to sims...

I don't own a PC and refuse to buy one just to run a sim. Until somebody comes out with a Mac version of a decent sim I'll keep whacking away with my little FP bird until I feel ready to begin with RADDs on my B400.

:) Fair enough.....Sheesh! How come Mac guys defend the fact that they are Mac guys so deeply and passionately? It's not like I told you to buy a PC. Its like they are so happy that the machine they bought can run these high end programs for Music and artsy stuff but then get pissed when mainstream software is not available. I use both but I am no snob when it comes to either one....They both serve me a purpose.

I was only trying to save you cash before you wrecked the B400. Seeing how you are a Mac guy, I can see you didn't need the advice cause you are better than me and I step down from my pedestal and kiss your skids.....

Yanno Z, that was simply uncalled for. I started this thread to ask a question about the differences between two versions of a specific helicopter.

I did not come here for you to tell me what to do or what to buy. Furthermore I did not come here to have you hurl insults at me. You are the one getting bent out of shape WRT PC vs. Mac, not I.

Lastly, I never said I was better than anybody else. Grow up.

My apologies for the noise to everyone else reading this thread.

Actually, you were exactly asking what to do and what to buy. You are one confused puppy. Furthermore, I see no insults in my comment directed at you. Only opinion and facts.

"Good luck with your Blade", you will need it from what I have heard.

if you want a sim to run on a mac, try a program called "paralells". i have it on mine, and it can run both windows programs and mac programs at the same time, u can have the same look of a pc n everything. PM for more details..

btw the blade a fine heli it'll just need new servos the first crash u have... not bad to start though

Um, that would be fine except Parallels only runs on Intel powered Macs. G4's and G5's here. ;)

Yea, just look at the servos funny and they strip gears on the B400. I've already swapped the servos for Hitec 65HB's on the cyclic. Also put a digital on the tail.

Just a note, there are no good flight sims that run on Parallels or VMWare (even the cheap E-Sky sim won't work in an emulator).

There is one sim that is kinda decent and runs on Mac OS X, but it has to be launched from the command line and doesn't do helis (designed for gliders), but kinda helps practicing the controls. It's called Slope Soaring Simulator (SSS) and can be found at http://www.rowlhouse.co.uk.

I prefer commercial versions as they are outstanding. Unfortunately this means Windows for those of us who have a Mac. If you're lucky enough to have an Intel Mac and a copy of XP around, native booting into Windows works fantastic, but the older Power-PC Macs have been left in the cold.

I completely agree that a few hours spent on a sim will save a lot of money, although it won't keep you from crashing... that's inevitable.

All the best.

With the price of a cheap PC these days, getting to around 300-400$ you'd probably still save yourself money buying a PC to only run a flight sim.
One good solid crash can cost you a couple hun easy, on the more expensive birds, the micro/mini electrics..... well these days it is getting cheaper to just buy a new helicopter.
-Grais.
PS: as for the Blade400, take the brushless motor and controller out, and the radio and you are left with another cheap micro heli, not that there is anything wrong with cheap in this case, its still just a plastic heli, with parts that cost the same as most others in its class.

In ways I agree, although it can be hard to convince a Mac addict to buy a PC for any reason. If I didn't have an Intel Mac I would probably have bought a used laptop for the sole purpose of running a SIM. Luckily I can reboot my Mac into Windows to run my SIM and shooter games.
