My 500 did a canonball into my pool with my help today. The tail rotor dipped in the water and was enough to slow the HS and suck the heli down. The batt was bubbling brown fowl smoke in the bottom of the pool before I rescued it from the abyss.

I'm pretty sure the esc is shot and the battery. I'm letting it dry for several days then check the rest of the electronics. The heli suffered no mechanical damage though. Anyone have any experience with helis taking a dip?

Search youtube, some guy deliberately took a 450v2 into a pool out of a steep dive, ask him, he might know what works and what doesn't.

Take your servos and RX apart and blow the water out. It will screw up the motors and other electronics for sure if you dont get it all out and dried. Some say to spray the circuit board etc with denatured alcohol as well but I think if you get the water out completely now stuff wont corrode.

okay here are the results.

Battery took a charge and is okay. (this surprised me)
2 of the four servos are shot.
gyro is good
rx is good
ESC dead
Motor works

this could have been a $700-$800 crash, it cost me around $250.

LESSON LEARNED: don't pretend to do a coast guard water rescue no matter how cool it looks.

BRIGHT SIDE: I'm flying my gasser again and working on my apache fuse until the 500 is up and running.

i personally would not use that battery it could be a time bomb now and burn your heli or worse your house to the ground

or cause a major crash and hurt someone

just my 2 cents worth

For your next aquatic adventure, as soon as the heli isout of the water and de-energized, pull the electronics RFN (Right Friggin' NOW) and open 'em up as far as possible. Hose 'em out with fresh water then blow 'em dry.

Now flood them with 90% isopropyl alcohol (Can be had at any drug store, but you'll need to get it from the pharmacist. They don't normally put it out with the 70% stuff) then blow dry, then flood 'em again and dry 'em.

As the alcohol evaporates, it'll take any water out with it ensuring your gear is perfectly dried out. You'll probably want to relube your servos as the alcohol might react with or this the grease.

skiddz, i did everything you stated in your post with the exception of lubing the servo gears. what type of lube is used for the gears?

White lithium grease is used on the servo gears. Hitec as well as Traxxas makes this lube, but your automotive store may have a large tube for cheap.
