I have not tested or researched enough to find out how well the DX7 radio keeps connection with the Rx when an object comes between the two. Like if you get into trouble and go behind a building or trees, does the Tx loses communication with Rx and goes into hold.
Is there a type of either patch antenna that can be added to the radio OR an external patch antenna that you can place up high on a mast?
I know they have 900mHz patch antennas out there:
