Went to the beach in my boat for a quiet celebration of my birthday with my wife and a couple of mates on Saturday and were chillin' nicely when......out of the blue arrived one of the local 'party boats'. I thought we were about to be disturbed by a bunch of tourists. As it got closer I saw loads of people on the top deck, as they got closer still they all turned around to display "HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOB" on the backs of their t'shirts. It was all the nicest people I know including several who had flown all the way from the UK to help me celebrate. Great party followed, great surprise and a birthday to remember!
So no flying but.....big smile on my face this morning!

Nope thats not me, thats a friend of ours called Sri
I managed to avoid getting thrown in on this occasion.
It was a great day out and Bobs mate's from the Uk are all a top bunch of people I was honored to be invited by his wife as it was close friends only.
I didnt realise how many "Old Folk" there were on this forum but then again its only the older fella's who can afford this hobby!
Gaui should use this detail in there advertising
"Hurricane 550, so stable even Geriatric's can fly them! "
I guess with the size of them makes it easier to see without the bifocals on
I cant belive I hang out with this many old cogers
(bracing my self for the onslaught!)

I think I read somewhere that the younger the 'sacrifice-ee', the more effective. Especially since that snowmobiler screwed up his chance to help out there is a need.

I've got underwear (Knickers for you brits) that are older than you....and full of as much BS. (lol)
Actually I wear Tri-focals and the 550 is much easier to see at a distance....
It's good to see the wide range of ages enjoying this hobby and each other's company on this forum.
I'm sure as I do..you vist the "Other" forums....and there isn't one as good as this for the 550 or just plain fun.
Now my question......I'll be 61 next month.....am I the Senior man here or is there sonmeon older?
Wazzer.....I'm not dribling and in diapers yet....still work a 10 -11 hr day at my current job... Retired after 38 from a major airline running a large a/c mntc department. And "no" i didn't work on the Wright Bros aircraft... !!
been flying models for about 55 years....and the 550 makes me feel like a kid again....doing things with it I never thought possible.
Show you how old I am....I actually made my first R/C radio from a "Heathkit"...3 channel.
So you have a LONG way to go till you have as many "crashes" under your belt as I do.
I really enjoy all the guys on this forum and look forward to checking it several times a day....
So lets keep it going....even if it's just to razz JB , Wazzer, or Hawk...:happyd
JB.....man Only 50.....I thought you were at least 70! You've hada hard life (lol) :nanabobo

Hey Mike
I too enjoy that fact that young an old can appreciate this hobby
And yes HF is the best forum on the net in my opinion as theres a good bunch of people and only a few idiots!
The humor is also great it often makes me laugh out loud and the others in the office think im mad laughing at AutoCAD!! little do they know!.....quite literally!!
I would also like to know who the oldest and who the youngest Hurricane flyers on this forum are. would make interesting reading to get and average hurricane pilots age.
Cheers all
Ben

Well, I've been racing RC cars for 35 years, and things got a little slow around here so I decided to try something new. Now, I never could drive a car with sticks, and just what made me think that I could fly a heli I'll never know! But, here I am, at 70, trying to learn. I have learned by going from my AXE-CP, to my Trex450, and now to my 550, that SIZE DOES MATTER!! Visibility I need plenty of, speed, not so much. Any how, learning and having fun.

Happy birthday Jungle Bob! Nice one!
Mjdee14 - I thought the '14' was your age! Honestly! I kept thinking, 'Man, this 14 year old really knows his stuff!'. So, confusion solved....
For the record, I'm 17 years behind Jungle Bob...

Mike,
You'd better be careful ordering your underwear if you come over here - knickers are for the ladies !!.

Alright ICCA :clappp
70....fantastic.....I feel like the "Young Guy"......
Anyone out there any Older ??...lets see how high we can go...
I can tell you one thing....I have seen this hobby really take off in the past 20 or so years...
can you imagine having to take your servos apart and resoldering the motor wires (pot) to reverse direction ?? man did that stink...subtrim ? what the heck was that? EPA..nah !.
We have it so good today...Sims, heli radios, etc.
Ernie Huber was in my model club and he was the first USA person to hover a heli upside down.....he did it by having a switch that reversed everything when inverted....he would have killed for what we have today.
Love this hobby...just may have to have my 550 buried with me...just in case.
You really young guys have some exciting years ahead of you as I'm sure there will be more exciting advances...Oh yeah...lets not forget 2.4ghz....that is probably the best thing in my lifetime.....No more Freq Pins !!! I would never have imagined that in a million years.
