View Full Version : ESC Question - Will larger size damage anything?

I have a 60A ESC laying around and was wanting to try it on 12A continuous 15A Burst motor.

Currently running a CastleCreations Phoenix 10 which is just slightly too small. Just for fun, I was considering slapping on the 60A. Will that overpower the motor or will motor never draw more than 15 no matter what size ESC? That's my assumption.

Never mind the weight issue, I am simply wanting to do this for bench testing just to see if the output of the motor feels any different and if so I might consider purchasing a 20A ESC. If there is no significant different, I will stick with the Phoenix 10.

Just wanting to check with the freaks to ensure I am not going to burn up my motor by doing this little test.

Thanks

wont hurt the motor, it will only give the motor what its able to draw. better to big an esc than too small

yup. it's ok to have a higher amperage esc then the motor can draw, as opposed to having a higher amperage motor then the esc can handle. for instance, i'm running a phoenix 60 in my PZ t-28 trojan, but the motor usually only draws 30 or less amps. sorta seems like i get more performance out of the motor, but it might be my imagination.
