Proper transmitter control. Thumbs or Thumb with pointer finger?

I know the "pro's" mainly do thumb and pointer finger. Alan Azabo uses his pointer finger with thumb for example. So my question is what's the best way? I'm training on Realflight G4 and don't want to start bad habits. I'm currently using my thumbs only as the other way seems awkward.... is it preference or is there a best practice?

I think its personal preference, but I find you seem to have alot more control if you pinch instead of using your thumbs.
