View Full Version : 550mm blades on a Logo 500 3D

Noticed a good few people are recommending 550mm blades for the 500 3D but I am a little confused as to how to fit these?

Are people fitting a boom extension, or just allowing the overlap of main and tail blades and assuming the dampers are hard enough to avoid a strike?

Any recommendations would be grately appreciated... I'm about to fit the VBar head and would obviously save me time to do any mods now while the heli is striped.

Many thanks

I have 550's on the Logo 500 and there is no overlap with the tail. It's designed for it. People are running 560's on them safely.

When they say things like 325, 400, 450, 500, 600, 700 you can't take it at face value, you really have to look at the specs on each bird as those numbers may have a meaning but it's different for each brand and how that brand sees things.

Examples: Trex500 swings 430mm blades, Logo 500 swings 560mm blades, Mini-titan 325 swings 325mm blades, Trex 450 swings 325mm blades, Logo 400 swings 430mm blades. I could go on and on but my point is they give it a number in the name for different reasons that aren't very relevant now days.

So I suggest you ALWAYS look at the specs for each bird in detail so you will know it's true size.

I run Rotortech 550mm mains on my Vbar 5003D, and Radix 92mm Tails on this heli as well. ;) Zero issues, stock orings etc...

560s here on stock dampners with Radix 95mm tail blades with no issues and no mods.

I understand about the 500, 600 etc naming convention being meaningless... I own 3 "500" size-class helis that use blades ranging from 425mm to 550mm!

My question was mainly to do with the main blade disk overlapping the tail blade disk. Sooner or later if these overlap, a strike would be possible during a hard manoeuvre that deflects the blades, eg a hard auto.

I'd previously read that the largest blades you could fit on the 500 stock boom were 520mm before the tip of the main blades was close to the tip of the tail ones. Clearly this was mis-information.

Obviously, I could just fit some 550mm and see how close they are, but since I need to buy a set first, I thought I'd ask :) Thanks for the info guys, I'll go order some 550's.

i run 92mm tails and 550 SAB mains, never had a blade strike and i fly like an idiot and crash often, no problems at all!

You must however run the extra hard dampners (or dumpers if you look on the packet) and stiff blades
