I'm trying to get my 600n with os hyper 50 running well. I've got about 15 flights on it now (5 with the break-in settings) This is my first nitro model so you'll have to excuse my noobishness.

1) When I'm spooling up from idle, I have to move the throttle very slow or the engine dies. Is this normal? I've adjusted it with throttle trim until it doesn't die before spooling up but if I'm not very careful moving it, it will die.

2) I adjusted the mixture control valve to the rich side because the pinch test only took 2 seconds to reach the lean condition (RPMs increased). It is now taking about 4 seconds. Is that acceptable? I've heard some people say it should take 5 seconds and others say 3 seconds.
2a) I'm not even sure I'm doing the pinch test correctly. Is it 5 seconds until the RPMs increase (indicating a lean condition) or 5 seconds until it dies? I've heard both ways on that as well.

3) After a flight, how hot should the back of the motor feel after the breakin flights? I've heard it "should not burn you" After my last flight (which I think it was lean during) it felt very hot but didn't burn me.Is that correct?

Sorry about all the dumb questions.

Answer 1: sounds like your low end is too rich. Look at your manual on how to adjust it.

Answer 3: you should be able to hold your finger on the back plate comfortably.

The pinch test should be done at idle after you land. clamp the fuel line or pinch it off and count how long until the engine stops. it should be 3-5 seconds on the hyper. and the backplate should be warm enough that you cant hold your finger on it indefinately. maybe 5 sec until it gets too hot. check it after you have flown it long enough to get hot. maybe 5 min or so. After a while you will start to hear and feel how its running. just make sure the backplate isnt really hot.

At least thats the way i was taught

Is that how long until it dies or until it starts speeding up before dying? I've heard that it should run 2-3 seconds before it starts speeding up.

it should die in about 3-5 seconds. the hyper i had liked that setting.
