After selling a bunch of unused RC gear, Im ready to start buying parts for my venture into the scale world... Like so many others, I'm going to build an MD500D or E and want to go with a 5 bladed head.
Any suggestion as to which one? Century? OF? Lightning??
Anyone know where to find narrow chord semi symmetrical blades in the proper scale for a 50 sized heli? I'll probably use one of my Trex 600Es for the mechs...

Lightning still hasn't shipped any new stuff in a month and a half Century looks great on the 500 D,E also there is Vario along with your other choices. Here is what Dee Tee Enterprises did with there's http://deeteeenterprises.com/NS.DeeTee.Hughes.500E.php

Yeah, I saw the Century build on the DeeTee site, but they mentioned some machining to "fix" a problem with it - and another $150 to do so...
Forgot about Vario..
I don't mind spending the money if it's a quality unit and I can get parts when I crash (Hey, I'm not gonna LOOK at the thing, I'm gonna fly it!)

If you can have a friend with a lathe you can fix the century head easily yourself even making a spacer to go from 12 mm to a 10mm or a local machine shop will sometimes do it for a nominal charge. Heck I think when ddragon gets his lathe running he could make a spacer for you for much less

I decided to go this route as well. I'm selling off my T450 and Align Hughes Fuselage, then getting the Century Fuselage and T600E mechs along with the Diamond 5 blade head. It's really hard working with mech the size of a 450 (my eyes aren't getting any better), so I figure I'll have better luck with the 50 size.
I can make you up one of those adapters for free when I do my own. Take me less that 20 minutes. I got the new gears for the lathe. Cost me a big $15.00. Just need to find the time to put it back together. Now that spring is here I have a lot of things to do around the house.
If you get your head and need the bushing before I'm ready, send me some really good specs and a diagram or two and I'll spin one up for you.

No problem at all, I know where I can get the brass stock (may even have it already) and it's simple on the lathe. I hate mill work, but lathe work is fun. I need to convert my mill to CNC, but I DON'T need another hobby with new projects right now :YeaBaby:

Awesome.. I was leaning towards the Century unit anyways... I won't have the head until I peddle a few more goodies (anyone wanna buy a RTF Raptor 50 V2 with lots of bling and a G-Force head? eheheh) so I can buy fuse and TR setup at the same time...
Wish I had a mill and lathe. We've got a mill here at work but it's quite the POS

I ordered the Lightning penta head from rcexpert and got it in in less than two weeks, granted it had to come from Hong Kong but it arrived none the less.

When did you order the head and how did you have them ship it?
Talked with him and found out it was a 450 size head. Guess we are still waiting for 600 sized head info and availability

No problem, just give me the dimensions when you are ready and I'll do one up for you.
My mill isn't that great, but the lathe is where I do most of the work and it's been rebuilt for finer work. I may get a smaller mill for finer detailed work. The one I'm looking at has digital readouts. The mill I currently have is for LARGE pieces of work, it's like hammering in finishing nails with a 20 pound sledge.

I was wondering about that head since I saw it advertised? Granted it's not the Diamond head which is a piece of art and works very well... but it's more than half the price of the diamond head too? Is it worth dropping $200-$250 on?

Deron
wait till we recieve ours for an answer on the quality. We both ( DA54 and myself ) ordered ours at the same time and they are giving us a date at the end of April to ship the product. I've been waiting for a month and a half due to a recall and manufacturing problems. you can see more info in the 5 blade/rotor post

Deron, contact fireup right here on the freak. He own a biz that makes CNC machines. He's going to help me get set up with a CNC benchtop mill - perhaps he can do the same for you.
