Just shredded my first belt and have a question about replacing it. Do I have to totally disassemble the tail rotor to replace the belt? Any short cuts? Not lazy, just don't want to get it apart and not get it back together. It was assembled when I got it. Also, what should I clean out the inside of the heli with? Like around the gears, etc. covered with residue from the shredded belt. And finally, is it recommended to spray the food grade silicone on before or after asssembly? Many thanks in advance! :noteworthy

And you didn't crash when it shredded?
Assuming you are talking about the TRex 450:
You will have to split the tail in half to be able to wrap the belt around the gear. It's not as bad as you think it is. No real short cuts, though.
I always blow the dust out of mine with an air compressor, but if you don't have one then you might have to resort to paper towels and Que-Tips.
You can spray the silicone on before you assemble it, but you will get fingerprints all over everything. You can also spray it on after assembly, which is what I usually do, and then I give it another spray every 10 flights or so.

Regarding the 450, what r40734 said ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
If you have a T-Rex 600, you have to split both the tail case and the boom case.

I got some at Wal-Mart in the automotive department. It's CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Multi-Use Lubricant. The can says it's safe for rubber and although it's not strictly "food grade", there's a statement on the back of the can that it meets FDA regulations for incidental food contact.
Here's an Amazon.com link to the same stuff:

You can also try Ace, Lowe's, Home Depot, Checker's, Autozone, PepBoys... I see it all over the place.
