Hi all i have just bought a SB-50HP for my OS50 Hyper haven't tried it yet is the pipe any good. Also i burnt a hole in my piston i found the head bolts were loose, the piston is really thin in the middle about 1.5mm-2mm thats why you should use the correct tool for tightening your engine.

The pipe is brilliant I would chose one over the mp2 anyday, not to say the mp2
is'nt good aswell but the sb50 is just a much sweeter pipe sound and power wise.

2ooo headspeed is where I have mine set it puts the engine at 17000 rpm.
However It will work fine from much less, say 1800 up to 2000.

I am running the engine in a bit but i could not help noticing how much oil there was in the pipe. Will this come out?will it build up? please advise.

Just make sure it is never lean better to be slightly rich
than any where near lean.
As far as running them in there is many slightly diferent opinions for instance
Curtis is very careful whilst running in an engine and doesn't give
it a caining until 30 tanks I think, where's I believe guys like Eric Larson and
Jason Krause pretty much go hard from the word go and to be honest that's what
I have done with my hyper and sb50 I ran it hard from the 2nd 3rd tank and it is a bit of a freak motor I reckon it has heaps of power and seems to get better fuel economy than my mates with the mp2.
Maybe someone else has some comments on breaking in their motors?
Cheers Adam. :)

I had a fly last night and i did notice that the fuel did last longer. the main needle is about one and a half turns out and about half way through the flight the power seamed to increase. It seams like the needle could go in a little more but i do not want to run it too lean.

The best way I have found is just the finger on the backplate test and with mine
it never gets over luke warm.

Thanks i did do that and it was ok i will leave the needle where it is for a while because it has a brand new piston in it and still needs running in a bit.

WHen you do work on needling the carb, do it one click at a time. It would also be nice if you know someone with a temp gun to be there. Get your head temp around 190 or so. Some people go higher but I found 190 to preserve my Hyper and give adequate power for flying good. If you can't get a temp gun, use the backplate method.

Thanks for that we use temp guns at work. i have had about another 4 flights now am now running at 2000 rpm, alot better now backplate just warm needle out 1 3/4 of a turns. Very pleased with pipe and engine the end of the day you get what you pay for.

I went a different route with mine. I think I was the first to think of this. I flew my first 5 or 6 tanks of fuel with a set of 550 blades. The motor stayed ice cold and runs like a raped ape now. I know everybody is thinking WOW that is genius how did you think of that. Can you say oops? You guessed it. I had a set of 550s and 600 NHPs and grabbed the wrong ones. I was sitting at the field with my ship sitting there next to my buddies and he asked why my blades looked shorter than his. I assured him it was the angle he was looking from. Low and behold, when I got home I measured them and they were 550s. This motor has been flawless ever since. I think I will use this method for all of my 50s :D
