Hi Folks
When I was programming my power jazz I was given the folowing instructions:
Brake: Off
Battery Type: Lipo
Battery empty: Slow down
Cut off at: 2.7 volts
Start up: Smooth
Timing: Auto
Rpm control: not sure , choice is either on or off , so its probably on
Start up time with active rpm control: 8s
Stick position: Auto ( APM)
And now for the questions:
I fly a thunder power pack, 5000 mah 10s.
I fly it for about 7 min in stunt one 80% power before the alarm goes off and then another :10-15 sec to bring it home.
The pack is usually warm not hot. It will take about 37 to 3800mah to charge to full.
I have run it a little longer till it slows down on the power jazz. But its hell to get it balance and accept a charge again.
Why would someone recommend setting the power to 8s when we are running 10s?
What is the proper setting.
Does the power jazz need to be re programmed ever so often?
What would be the proper way to programe this product?
Kindly let me know
Thanks
D

With your current setting of 2.7v for the cut off you will damage your battery pack if the LVC is activated even once (you are drawing down your packs too much for them to survive).

Ever since i began with E heli's (many moons ago) many of us decided it was safer to time out flights than to rely on any hardware (esc or lipo alarm) to tell us when enough is enough.

Lipos are fussy and dont like undervoltage at all so its better to stay conservative.
From the description you made it sounds to me you have killed the pack.

There is plenty of information on programming the Power Jazz on this and other forums, so I won't invest the time to repeat it. When I got mine, I did various word searches and found all the info I needed to get it programmed and working just fine.

As for the start-up time with rpm controls in effect, the number 8S refers to the length of time (in seconds) the ESC will take to go from start-up to the target rpm. Keeps from stripping gears on start-up. I settled on 10 seconds, as this was about the same time my Jazz 55 took to spool up. No right or wrong here, whatever works for you and you're comfortable with.

Other than an occasional (once every 20 flights or so), variation in target head speed (plus-minus 50 to 100 rpms), the controller is bullet proof. When I got the variations, I used to stop the heli, unplug and then replug the battery to reinitialize the ESC, which usually put the head speed back on track. Anymore, I just fly it out, and things are back to normal the next flight. Take care, Dave.

No, the packs work fine. So far no problems. But I now know how serious it could be.
Thanks

Where can get some of this info on the power Jazz?
All I seem to find are some dead end links!
Send me a few links please
Appreciate it

Try this. Go to Run Ryder and search this "Got my PJ on the X2". Once on the "Got my PJ on the X2" thread, down about half way on the first page is a link to RC Groups. Once on the RC Groups thread, on page 10 of that thread, is another link to another RC Groups thread on the PJ.

All these threads contain info on the Power Jazz, and by the time I read through them all, I had no problems with the PJ. Hope this helps. Dave.
