Hi
Is anyone running a FP Lipo in their DSX9? The manual says not to use them, but I have on and would prefer to run the Lipo.
Thanks Jay

Do a search. It voids your warranty, and JR says it can damage your Tx.
Your choice.

I just cant understand why every one wants to risk their Voltage Regulator in such an expensive radio!
I am using 2500ma Nicads and can fly several times a week and use the sim, and not charge for 2 weeks, still dont need to then, but just do it.
You can go to a Radio shack or a hobby store, and get a 8 cell holder, they fit just fine, all you have to do is solder your connector on the leads and put your favorite brand of batteries in, and away you go. All fits nicely and no risk of voiding warrenties or damaging your radio.

I do have a JR with a lipo and a LDO parallel regulator. You can damage your radio if the voltage exceed the maximum allowable. Other than that the only concern of the manufacturer is that "one" could either connect the wrong polarity or the wrong voltage.
I prefer lipo as they don't discharge as their NiMH counterparts and because the lesser weight.
Each one is entitled to its opinion.
Happy flying.

Just run 2 diodes in series in the + wire and its all good

That's what I did last night! I added two 1N4001 diodes in the battery lead and now a fully charged LiPo pack registers 10.9V on the transmitter's display (an X9303 in my case)!

I have a dsx9 for over 9 months now and use it with a 3s lipo never had a problem.
I put the cut off voltage ( beep at 10 volt ) I looked at the regulator inside left it on for 8 hours straight. It never got warm. so no problem for me but yes it voids your warranty.
If you look at the specs on the internet it says this voltage regulator can handle more then 12 volts. I don't understand why all thes manufactories are so against lipo use I love it

Because they use a linear voltage regulator, which converts excess voltage to heat. So higher input voltage, more heat. Specs may be for moving air cooling, which there is not a lot of moving air inside the Tx case.
I have a 2700 mAH Sanyo based pack that holds a charge for at least 3 months (longest I have tested). Will power the Tx for some 15+ hours (higher capacity than the Lipos people are using). And doesn't void my warranty. Doesn't require mods to my Tx. Doesn't require kluge setups.
We also know that our flight battery lipos don't like being left fully charged for long periods. Can be damaged by over discharge. Can be damaged by screwed up charging. Same with Tx lipos.
And you have to pull the battery cover to charge.
My NiMH has NONE of these downsides.
The ONLY advantage I can see with the lipo is a bit lighter, but with a neck strap, who cares. How long do you fly anyway? If you can't hold the Tx, how to carry the helis to/from the car? :)
