View Full Version : How happy are you with your Gaui 200?

This forum sure has grown and gotten quite lively. Gaui 200 is picking up momentum, which is always good for the end user, to have the line of products stay alive, and have continuing support of parts!
Anyway, I can't sleep tonight, so was reading over some of the old posts... One of the questions that keeps popping up, are people asking how well they fly, if they should get one, if they would be happy with one. So I thought it would be fun to start this poll, so please only gaui owners vote! The vote is for how HAPPY you are with the gaui 200. So it doesn't matter if you are just hovering with it, or doing mad 3D with it... What matters is that you own one, and have flown it, and how you feel about it in the scale from 0 to 10 :)
It doesn't have to be the best performing heli for you to be happy with it - it could be the size, availability, the performance, the bling or whatever, that makes your vote high.
It also doesn't have to suck for you to be unhappy with it - it can simply be too costly, too hard to find parts, bad quality & fit, too finicky to fly or maintain etc, and you should vote low.
So overall it's just a poll for how happy you are with your gaui, for whatever the reason. So let the voting begin! And please, only gaui owners who have flown them should vote :)
Of course, this IS in the gaui 200 forum, so the votes will naturally be skewed...

I really like my Gaui . It's was great idea, and is a really great heli in all aspects: performance, affordability, tune-ability, parts availability, quality of parts, and the list goes on!
One thing that I found that I like about this heli was that it was a challenge. There is barely an manual supplied with the kit, if you even want to refer to that little pamphlet as a manual . BTW, that's the only thing I would rate this heli down on. Anyway, it was a real challenge. A Challenge to build, a challenge to fly. It made you think and really have to work to get this heli to fly well, which is really worth it if you stick with it. Some people may think that's a bad thing, but I've always liked to be challenged.
The heli is a blast to fly once you get used to how it flies. Yes it isn't as stable as a 90 glow, but you can't fly a 90 in your living room or in your back yard, yet both can do 3D, so in my opinion the trade off is certainly worth it! But then again there's nothing wrong with 90s ;). If you can fly a coaxial with your eyes closed, and you get some training gear for the Gaui, and it's setup correctly, the beast can be tamed quite easily. Just 2 days ago I didn't think I could fly it, but I went and got some training gear from my LHS and I can fly it. I've seen better flying, but it's moving through the air without me touching it so that's good enough for me right now. I've ran about ten packs through it so far. I've had a small amount of practice on a t-rex 450 se v2, but not much to amount to anything.
Overall, it's a wonderful mechanical feet, and anyone who buys one will be satisfied. If you need help. You know where to find us!

Awesome man... glad that you got it flying and liking it! congrats!
I have some minor design issues with the gaui, but no heli is perfect, and gaui is rather close :) it fly amazingly well "for the size". My biggest complaint is initial cost.... repairs aren't that bad compared to a larger heli, but initial cost hurts. But I figured if I like the heli it's gonna get blinged out sooner or later, and with the gaui it's pre-blinged so I can't spend too much money afterwards :)
My biggest praise is the size. It is a challenge like helicuz said, but gaui give me lots of stick time because I can fly in the yard or garage, and I can't do that with any of my other helis.
And yeah, instructions are rather funny, it sucks even for a diagram. It definitely helps if you've setup a cp heli before... and helicuzz is right... if you ever need any help due to lack of manual, you can always ask HIM :)

Overall I just love this little bugger.
One complaint now is that I am grounded due to spares in back order.
(Broke the spindle shaft hitting a flower pot in the garden).
It really sucks to be grounded due to a $3.- part.
Other that that, I am not happy with the tail design.
It is way to sloppy, and if the tail slider slides all the way to the boom, "all hell breaks loose" (Couldn't find the right words in English to describe the mechanical phenomenon)
But again, I love it, and this is not "complains" I am just talking about my recently found love. :)

i gave it a 7 because of the tail, mine is flat worn out already slop in the tail spindle the bearings are loose in the cf plates, but i think its time for the microheli tail other than that i have put probably 80-90 packs through this heli and i like it.
as for the difficulty of flying, it flies exactly like my Trex 450 with the stock paddles on it ( 6 gram) it jumps around a bit more in hover, which no big deal, my FP is harder to fly, sheiiit, my HB king 2 is harder to fly ( because its a worn out piece of sh**.)
i have yet to take off the paddle weights, but i need to its a bit slow on the roll.
i wouldn't mind a little more power out of the motor on 2 cell. ( something like my scorp -8 in my trex), but that might be because i haven't tried the wooden blades yet. I need to get off my butt and get those soaking in some CA.
as far as the guys thinking this would be good for a first heli, save your grief and get a trex 450 it can be tamed down for beginners.

I give it 9 , although I have had bother with the servos falling apart, and the tail bearings loose in the carbon plates... I cured that with a touch of epoxy round the inside of the hole, then refit the bearings. I think the problem was caused by vibration at the tail rotor.. Other than that its brilliant.

Seems like at least a couple of you guys are having cf tail bearing problems... I just started a new post about my observations, and possible cause and prevention for this :)

i really like this heli. chicks dig it too. i'm just tired of having to fix something eveytime it lifts off the ground. one flight...one. everything seemed to be dead on. next battery pack, it was all messed up. i think if you are looking for a heli that fly's consistantly good most of the time, you are going to be disappointed.:(
it is a HUGE crowd pleaser. my LHS asked me to bring it down. when i got there, there were heligeeks everywhere! heligeeks = no chicks. but, i was green with envy as they marveled. i let the leader touch it...lol:smokin:

Don't be discouraged. Chick's do dig Heligeeks. I have a few notches on the bed post and a girlfriend to prove it
If you fly it, they will come. (No pun intended)

LOL!!
You guys kill me!
But I think you'r right on this one. I tend to let G.F. shop with my card after a heli-crack hangover.
She's gotten to the point where I think the sight of a heli turns her on...

After the 10 or so packs I've run through my Gaui. I'm gonna have to agree with rotorhead58d. It's what I call a high maintenance heli. It's worth it, but it still gets kind of annoying so just prepared.

H*ll Yeah Rotor!
Yessir, they grow on trees down here!
In fact, a sweet young thing that works with G.F. has a thing for Army guys ;-) 'Come on down!
And to Heli Cuz, high maintenance, I'll bet! But for that matter go out and buy a Ferrarri, or a better yet, a Stearman, the more fun the more work!
