Vinger, helicraze,

I'm running a CC Phoenix 45 but NOT in governor mode. I was going to try gov. mode but since most people said that the Phoenix ESC's didn't do it too well I left it alone.

Any other ideas?

Maybe tail slider binding or servo on its way out. Or headspeed to low or gain too high.

helicraze,

The tail "twitch" happens while just cruising around so I don't think that could be the tail slider binding as I'm not even turning the heli when it twitches. Also, it doesn't seem to twitch at all for the first 3-4 minutes of a 6 minute flight.

The tail servo is a Futaba 9257 that is only 6 months old.

The headspeed has been upped to appx 2600.

The only thing I can think of from your suggestions is lowering the gain.

I'll try that and see how it goes.

Thanks.

2600RPM? You must be crazy, are we talking about a E550? I personally would not feel comfortable with a 9257.

Sorry helicraze.

I should have been more specific. It's my mini-Titan that has the tail issues. The E550 is flying GREAT!

Ah good, i was puzzled as this is the E550 thread, 2600RPM on the E550 i think it would explode! LOL

helicraze,

I feel like a fool. I was going on 2 hrs sleep when I posted those specs and that it was my MT. (I had also flown the MT in my front yard that afternoon and I seemed to have a problem even getting it to lift off). I have no idea why but I disconnected the batt, checked the swash and all the linkages. Then put it back down and flew it no problem except what I could have swore was a tail "blip" hence the confusion.

It's not the MT I was initially referring to :(

It's my E550 that is DEFINITLY twitching but only in idle-up 2

Again the tail "twitch" happens while just cruising around so I don't think that could be the tail slider binding as I'm not even turning the heli when it twitches. Also, it doesn't seem to twitch at all for the first 3-4 minutes of a 6-8 minute flight.

The tail servo is a Futaba 9254 that is only 4 months old.

The headspeed is appx 1800-1900.

The gain was recently lowered from about 68 to 45 (to increase piro rate) on a 401

Sorry about the mix-up.

Any other ideas?

I wouldn't rule out binding in your tail area as even if you are just hovering the gyro is making minute corretions for wind etc.

Have you got the stock ESC? Personally i am not found of CC stuff

Thanks helicraze. The tail doesn't seem to bind at all.

Here is the rundown again:

After getting my E550 "tweaked" for mild 3d by upping the HS, increasing pos and neg pitch etc. the heli has developed a "twitch" about 4 minutes into an 8-9 min flight.

It not constant but happens once about every 5-20 seconds no matter if I'm cruising forward or entering/exiting a turn.

It's not the gyro gain as it's way down (and wasn't twitching before).

Here's the specs:

- Tonic-X 1110kv brushless
- CC Phoenix 85 HV ESC
- CC BEC 10A switching regulator
- Futaba 9257 tail servo
- Futaba GY401 gyro
- (3) Fut 9252 digital servos on cyclic
- Spectrum AR7000 RX

Again, it flies great for 3-4 minutes and then the tail twitching starts.

Any ideas??? Static buildup/discharge?

It could be static as CC is prone to it i heard, but not heard on anyone having static issues with TT helis.

It really does sound like your heli is in gov mode, are you certain its not?

helicraze,

I don't think I ever programmed a governor mode on either of my TT helis. Looking at my CC manual however it looks like there is no way NOT to run in governor. It's always in gov mode and you just choose between Gov mode LOW and Gov mode HIGH.

I will fire up the laptop this weekend and verify the Gov mode setting.

The one thing I do notice is that the twitching does happen more frequently in idle-up 2 than idle-up 1. Idle-up 2 has a slightly higher headspeed.

If it IS the governor mode on the ESC causing the twitch, how do I eliminate the problem?

Use CC newest firmware and do the setup in fixed endpoint, then go to gov-mode, SET RPM mode, put in your specs and select HS to be 1900 plus, now play around with the HS by changing it up or down 50rpm at a time, surge/twitch will be gone at certain rpm.

Vinger,

THANK YOU!!!

I will try that ASAP. I did lower the HS from 90-85-90 to 85-80-85 just to try it and that seemed to eliminate (but may have seen just one) the twitch in idle-up 1.

also, watch bob's videos on the CC85HV. they will help you understand how this esc works.

Thanks rotorhead. I actually watched Bob's vids. I thought I set everything correctly but apparently I may not have.

I will probably D/L the latest CC firmware (even though it's beta) and try what Vinger said. My only concern is that with the E550 being so heavy, I like to have a little more motor torque on demand and not just rely on pitch changes (the way governor works).

I'll just have to try it.
