After about 10 flights my hacker bearing on the Ion failed on me. Anyone know how I can fix it? Thanks. :arggg:

If it is so new that it only has 10 flights then send it back to Hacker distributor and let them fix it, they have been know for standing behind this motor over the cores of way to many failures. I think everybody who bought one of these models and used it very much has had motor failures with the Hacker & Hacker fixed them all.

I will go on record and say I would not recommend the stock Hacker, The Ion is the best model I have flown to date but the Hacker motor is unreliable, try to order any future Kits with the Actro 32-3, this motor is providing very good service. It is reported also that Hacker is coming out with an out runner motor for these models that when it becomes available will be very good so keep an eye out for that in the future.

Well mine took a dump yesterday.
After almost 11 months of good service as a camera platform mine went bye bye.
Same failure as all the rest. The motor just ate itself internally.
Going to ship my to Hacker tomorrow, but in the meantime I think I might go with the outrunner.

Get a Kohler or a Neumotor and use the Hacker for a paperweight :badair:

I learned the hard way about Hackers 3 years ago. This has been a problem with them since they introduced the XL series motors.

I've had bearings lunch and magnets explode since my first 15xl motor.

They'll probably fix it for you, but it will just be a matter of time until your doing it again

You can pop the bearing out by removing the end cap. If you find one locally use green loctite to secure in it's pocket.

Believe it or not I have gotten better service out of the tail rotor shaft bearings of a Raptor (they're the same size) than the bearings that Hacker supplies. They're cheap too.

Hi Al,

What is the stock number for that Raptor bearing? I try it that way so I don't have to wait for Hacker. Thanks.

The bearing's dimensions are d5 x D11 x W4. You can find one that way at a bearing source.

This is the TT # PV0059 Tail Shaft Brg.

I don't know what this will do to your warranty but it's not hard to do. You should make sure the magnet is alright also before you buy any bearings. If it's got any physical damage or visible heat damage like a discolored shaft, it's needs to be replaced and only Hacker can do it for you.

Pop the shaft end cap off and look at it first. That shouldn't hurt your warranty. If there's more to it than just the bearing, you can send it back.

If you do this DO NOT get the magnet near anything steel it has enormous pull and will fly towards anything it's attracted to with enough force to break it. Don't get it close to any tools either.

You should be able to see if it's bad without taking it out of the case which is a physical chore in itself.

Does that fit the rear bearing as well? How do you mount it and make it stick?

They're both the same size bearings.

Green Loctite for holding in the bearings. If your old bearing spun in the end cap it will be real loose and push right out or even fall out. If that's the case you'll need to send it back for a new end cap.

like I said take the screws out and pull the cap off and see what condition it's in.

Nothing will come flying apart or pop out if you do. If it's screwed put the cap back on and call Aeromodels to find out what they want you to do about it.

If everything looks OK and all it needs is a bearing you can decide if you wan't to try it.

You do no how to remove and install bearings without ruining them don't you?

Push the old one out and Loctite in the new one

What are the symptoms of the bearings going out?

Simon.

A screeching sound would be my description.

If it's sounds funny something's probably wrong.

You can see if the baering shot by grabing the pinion and try to move it side to side, and turn it to see if the bearing is dry and notchy.
