when using a 5.1 reg for a tail servo do you use it between the servo and gyro or between the RX and gyro? I was just going to install it bettween RX and gyro, but there are two leeds? does the gain leed not carry voltage or do I need to install it between the servo and gyro?

Which gyro? If the gyro is spec'ed to handle 5.8V, put the step-down between the gyro and servo. If not, put it between the RX and gyro. I have a G770/8900G combo and have the step-down between the gyro and servo.
