I just bought a 3D Pro and after only a few short test flights just practicing a hover I lost several teeth on the inner Tail Crown gear.
I was careful to raise RPM slowly. Anybody else run into this?
Does anyone know if this gear is available in metal instead of plastic?
Thanks

The mesh must have been to loose. Did you build the kit or was it an ARF.. NO they don't make it in metal. Usually they are no trouble but some times you a bad one everyonce in a while. If you have any teeth on it still ck the gear mesh first.

Hi, I have a 3D PRO me too. I have the same problem. I think is not the assembly of the heli is the problem, but only this gear. I have my 3d pro since 5 monts ago and I broke 6 crown gear at this time. I know when I break some teeth, is when my landing was a little hard on heavy grass.
It's hard for this gear!!! :?

upperking... Are those tail blades on backwards? Or does the tail spin that way?

make sure that there is no brass spacer behind the TR drive gear this will allow you to tighten up your gear mesh enough to avoid this problem. Also what gyro are you using, if you are using a 601 use it on the FAI vs the 3D mode.

I just ordered a belt drive kit for my tail. Should remove this problem permanently.
Per discussions with un-named persons in Century, they are working on a belt drive for their production birds. I was told it makes all the difference in the world. I will find out.

The plastic crown gear is the weak link in the system and will strip ant tine the tail blades touch something.
The metal tail box will have no effect on the front gear breaking teeth.

The tail on the 3D pro does turn "backwards".
I just installed a belt drive on my 3D pro and stuck the tail in a pile of snow with no problem. The belt drive also lets you chose the direction of rotation for the tail.
