Seems the obvious way to have adjustment for blade angle tracking - I am surprised it is an upgrade not used by more of us.

Hi everyone:thumbup:

You know crashing is good for you;) and judging by this weeks catalogue of disasters most of us must be really good by now.

Me, Grant, Mike, Jonny, Andy; off the top of my head, though the gold medal has to go to Grant whose single handedly created a boom among helibit suppliers and manufacturers.:YeaBaby:

Even by his his own philosophy that if he doesn't crash at least once a month he's not trying hard enough, he's put in enough effort to last till Christmas:lol:.

However I'm pleased to report that fixing my own heli after landing it in a tree has yeilded several useful improvments

1. On stripping the tail down to fit a new belt I found that the tailbearings were shot, this is because the pinion on the Align tail shaft I was using was slightly too wide causing pinching and side loading the bearings..... I just shaved 1/4 mm off the boss on the pinion with a needle file when I reasembled it. Much free'er and spins for ages when you throttle down.

2. Added an ally cross brace between the two DTS servo mounts, because there was slight flexing in the mounts feels solid as a rock now.

3. Found that super glue capilliarates right along the tiny cracks in the canopy gelcote where it was slightly damaged, Fixing it almost unnoticably.

4. I had reduced the swashmix more than I would have wanted giving me about +- 8 degrees. I thought the servos were running into their end stops on full stick input.
this turned out just to be caused by a dead spot at the end of the throw on one of the servo's been able to increase it noticably.

5. I also increase the horn length on all three swash servos and so improved the response no end. I have also removed the 10% Expo from the Aile and Elev and find the heli much better to fly. Its still easy and stable but responds much faster to stick input.

So there; proof that crashing is good for you!:thumbup::thumbup:

All the best Ian

Yep Ian, I agree, there are plus points to be found whilst waiting for the postie. I just can't leave the little beast alone, always tinkering with the servo horns, blades, setup, anything really. Am undecided on whether to fit an Trex shaft or stick with the pEsky for the CNC head. Dont fancy drilling the flybar holders out bigger, and maybe weakening them. MMMMMMMM

Well I just dug out an old pack of pesky shafts cause my Align one is half a hairline out.

these were brand new and never used and all of them half a mile out:thumbdown:

It really don't matter that the Align ones don't reach through the bottom bearing, the bearing spins properly and supports the shaft just the same! Also EXI CopterX and TRex
only have two main bearings and the main gear protrudes below them, not heard of any probs!:)

Soz Ian, but was referring to the flybar shaft

Just dug my old Esky flybar out and it must be 1.8mm so your only taking 0.1 mm of ally off each side of the flybar cage, dont think youll weaken it much. (havn't got a micrometer to check though)

It's a real dichotomy!!!!!! The Trex fly bar rod is so much stronger and straighter than the pEsky one - no surprises there then!!!!!!!!! But I would have to shave off a fair bit, cos there isn't much there in the first place....

In for a penny............................

Just drill it out, its such a small amount that i did it by hand without a drill.
Its not enough to effect the strength in a crash really, if you have a crash that har the rest of it would be smased anyway! Trex flybar is much better.

It is the way i am heading. Anyway at least I can then build the CNC head, and not sit with idle hands [singular in my case!!!!!]

Hi Mike
got my bling this week cnc head and tail and a futaba 7c 2.4 a reel beauty, been working on it till today. tried a hover today (first time with new bling) WOW WOW WOW :clappp
I had to stop becuase the of the weather but managed the get 2 hovers of 5 sec
It's like putting a stick of dynamite up her ass ( I think it's the new tx )
Everyting feels more solid (head and tail) and now I just got to spent some more time on the tx to get a grip on it ( so many adjustments )
Ive got to lower the the pitch it is +11 -11 and I think it is to much for a starter like me but WOWOWOW

One happy dude

It is amazing what little differences make. And there is also the psychological aspect; the belief that you CAN actually do it. Was shocked as to how different she felt and looked with no trng gear too.

So after a weekend of itchy fingers, the postie didn't knock today, so I am left looking at my sweet little bird in bits still waiting for more bits!!!!!!!!! I drilled out the flybar holders to accept the Trex shaft no prob. Hopefully will get the goodies tomorrow...................

Unbelievable. You wait days, weeks, in some cases a full month... and then everything turns up on the same freakin' day.

Oh, wait, not really everything - I'm still waiting for two packages. I'm beginning to understand what happened to my credit card balance...

Time to barricade myself in the lab and tell Igor to handle the villagers by himself for a while. If I'm not back in two days... just wait longer. I suspect there's going to be material for a photo or two by the time I've worked my way through this pile :YeaBaby:

You know, another "bit" I want is a better tube for the aerial, cos I bust the original ages ago!!! I did remember Martin ["Wibble"] and his McD straw, but wondered if there is anything better?

Hey, when you don't get next day delivery you buy before you break 'em :)

This bulk buy philosophy just means I pay less postage in the long run... and it will be a long, long time before I'm grounded waiting for parts again.

Actually the bottom 50% of that picture is parts for some foam fighter projects I'm going to build over the spring. Sometimes it's good to take a break from head mechanics and work with some basic materials for a while...

...oh, and hey, wait a minute - you guys actually get helicopter parts on Christmas and your birthdays?

It seems wer'e a bit like smak addicts who'll do anything for our addiction, Flying blind in sandstorm, repeatedly smashing into the ground with a naff motor, you can just see the cold sweat of withdwawl on Mikes brow as he desparately paws at the TX with his plastercast. etc.etc.

DierWolfs brother sounds a right one too

Welcome too the Belt CP Crayzee club:rolling:rolling:rolling

Oh and happy birthday for next week Brian:thumbup:

I love getting packages!! I wait breathlessly for the post every day! 'Course I wanna grab up the good stuff and get it tucked away before the wife gets home and discovers it. ;)

You're gonna be busy for a while. :rolling

(I told the villagers you've come down with some kind of oozing sores, they won't be bothering ya for a while.)
