Are they the new style cases and servos with new style cases (beefier top case pin hole)?

fireup, i spoke with a hitec rep at toledo on that very thing. he said the new cases were in the works but don't hold your breath. he said it will be a while. he said the servo is many years old and until they got into a heli, they didn't have any problems. he said they would be beefing up the top pin holder and using a longer pin to boot.

FYI ...

Just received some HS5245 servos from Tower Hobbies. They are the old style case tops.

I called Hitec and inquired about sending in the brand new servos for either a replacement or uprade to the new style. They basically told me it was what they call a 'Running' change and will charge me for the service.

Guess what, Tower is getting them back and I'll be using Futaba 9650 servos instead.

I have 3 5245's I my new Rex 500, Im sure they are the old style as I bought them about 3 weeks ago.I sure hope I do not have a problem with them. I think Hitec should offer the replacement case's to owners of the older style case if they are haveing problems with them in heli's.

Yeah, I will keep my 9650 at this moment for sure.

The 1600 5245s Hitec received this month were of the new case design. Most went to Hobbico so if you're going to buy 'em, find out from your retailer if they got them from Hobbico and if so, find out how long ago they received 'em.

I got this news directly from Mike Mayberry (I went to highschool with him) at Hitec about a week ago.

Any pics to show both the old and new design? I don't think the retailer will tell you where they placed their order from.

We took skiddz servo apart and the only different was a deeper hole in the top case and longer bearing shaft. No marking on the outside case except for the date of mfg. sticker

The date was?

Skiddz said it's 08.03 for the new case, so it prob. mean March 2008.

Mine are also marked 08.03 and they're definitely the new design...

Yep. I took all three apart before I bolted 'em up to my 500 and all of 'em were the new design. I *KNOW* they came from the new batch because I had Mike look to see who bought some locally out of that batch and bought them not two hours after they were picked up from Hitec.

Do you think it will hold up better in a crash Kevin?

I called HITec today and talk to the person who receives them. He said that HiTec has not received the new modified 5245 servos. This is the second time I call in the past month and received the same answer. I called because some say they are getting the new design but there seems to be a conflict of information because HiTec is saying they did not get them!

I called Hitec and spoke to Mike Mayberry and he said there's no way to tell if the 1600 they received for April were the new design or not, but he said since they did NOT receive their normal allotment for March, chances were the cases were being redesigned. I know for a fact the 3 I bought from that April allotment ARE the new design. Chances would be pretty small if I got the only 3 out of those 1600 that were the new design.

It would be good if they actually knew what they were getting. The customer rep @ HiTec also said that they may be selling just the "pin & top of the case" to upgrade the older model.

I think the new case design will be good. To break through the new top case will mean the whole top case will have to crack and not just the small indent inside the case, but time will telll, anything can break!:YeaBaby:

Sometimes, to get the answer you want, you have to speak to the right people in the company.

The person I talked to said he received the latest order & checks the merchandise. Any suggestions who the right person is? :thinking

Maybe just ask them what the mfg. sticker said on the box. If it's 08.03 or higher, it's probably the new design because they didn't have them in stock for the longest time (probably due to the redesign).

I was at Gyro Hobbies today and picked up a Spartan DS760 and saw they had the 5245's in stock. I checked and it had the 08/03 sticker. They had about 6 in stock.
