I am about to go ahead and buy a Gaui 200 but I have seen what looks like a number of diffrent versions and I want to know which one is the best. Just a few questions to clear thing up...

#1 Is the EP 200 SE the same thing as the Corbon Pro version sold on HeliHobby.com?:arggg:

#2 I have seen Gaui's with what looks like CF landing gear. Is this an upgrade or is it yet another version?:arggg:

If there are in fact, more than one version, what one is the best?:)

1. The SE and Carbon Pro are two different versions of the same heli. Carbon Pro has carbon fiber tail boom and landing gear. Not sure if anything else is different, don't think so.

2. The landing gear is an upgrade unless you get a kit that comes with it (carbon fiber pro) which will cost you more than the standard SE.

3. There is now a version that comes with the new fiber glass canopy and direct drive tail which is again more expensive than the standard SE.

4. The carbon fiber pro would be the best buy if you plan on upgrading later anyways. I would stay away from the direct drive (shaft driven) tail until its been proven in the wild.

5. The SE definitely benefits from having the carbon fiber tail boom installed, save a bit of weight and looks cool. The CF landing skids are also better than the standard plastic and aluminum skids, weigh less as well.

6. Ultimately, if you are proficient at building from parts, you would likely save the most money if you were to just buy all of the parts and put it together yourself. That is if time is not a factor.

So are you saying that the Corbon Pro is the best? Also, I saw the Pro version on Heliahobby and from the looks of it, it did not have Carbon landing gear! Is this mabye because they did not have a pic of the pro? Please explain. Thank you

Ok, sorry just checked out that site stating that its a Carbon Fiber Pro and not having anything other than the frame as CF is not cool. I just assumed that if it were called the Carbon Fiber Pro that it would have the carbon fiber upgrade parts. What they have there is just the standard SE kit. I could have sworn that someone out there was selling the ARF kits with cf skids and boom though. Looks like thats not the case, not anymore and at least not where I just checked.

So the EP 200 SE is the carbon pro?

From what I've seen there was only ever the se version with belt driven tail and fg canopy. And now the sd version with shaft tail and lighter plastic canopy is available. I've never seen the carbon skids and boom offered as part of a kit. I may be wrong but I thought they were only ever available as upgrades.

Yeah, its the same thing and appears to be a "marketing" scheme of some sort. Fudd's right, after searching all over I couldn't find a single ARF kit with the carbon fiber tail boom and skids. Could swear there was though. Thought it was Flying-Hobby that had 'em.

The 230g flying weight Gaui advertises is interesting. The only way I'd get that is to remove the battery and swing the heli around on a string. :rolling That would probably have its advantages.

First off :rolling!

Secondly, I tried really hard to get the lightest stuff, and went to all this trouble to do so. I used everything Gaui suggested and my flying weight is still 5% over the maximum 250g recommended flying weight. I don't know the exact weight off the top of my head. Gaui suggested to use the Futaba GY401 and there is no way you could get the Hurricane 200 flying using a GY401 and have the flying weight under 250g! You'd have to take out the battery and throw it or something :FThat. You can't get the Hurricane 200's flying weight under 250g. Mines over by at least 10g, and there is plenty of power. Believe me !

We'll have to see what happens when mine is flying, but I used Dyomond servos and the Logictech 2100 for a net savings of over 25g compared to the 45's and 401. That's like 10% of the empty man!

Also, maybe they really are stating an empty weight, after all, the battery is the fuel ;-)

But, posted empty weights, in both airplanes and motorcycles are up there with weather forcasting and palmistry. You get to the point where you try to buy more lightness, then just give up and say "it is what it is". At that point, if the thing is still flyable, you win!

Yeah, I'm at 274g flying weight. At first I was thinking holy shi7, thats quite a bit beyond the 250 max suggested weight. It does say +/- 5% in the manual but I'm 14g over that. Doesn't matter, still lifts off like a champ. You could be at 300g and this baby would cook. Still, I like make things as efficient as possible, need to shorten my wires and switch to wooden blades.

When I mounted the flycamone2 to the gaui, it weighed 296g: http://helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=67917

It was really windy as you can see at the end of the vid, so it was a handful for me, but it flew ok, better than I thought it could... I can tell the difference, but was still very flyable, lifted fine for normal flying around :)

I ordered the Gaui 200 PRO from these guys 2 days ago -- free shipping, no tax. They talk nice on the phone and got it in to UPS quickly. Tracking number was sent right away and it is to be delivered day after tomorrow. Can't complain...so far.

Now, after reading this post I don't really know what I'm getting -- CF boom?? CF skids??

Oh well, I'll find out. Now for the search on which servos, gyro, etc. is best.

Ain't helis fun!?!

I just got the Gaui Hurricane 200 Pro Carbon Fiber ARF kit model number GAU203910 yesterday and it does not have the carbon tail boom. It has the aluminum tail boom. Just FYI!

:YeaBaby:The Gaui came in yesterday from Hobbyshop World -- fifth day. Not bad, $288. Free shipping.

It is the Gaui Hurricane 200 PRO Carbon Fiber Pro (#203910) -- Alum boom and skids, FG body.

This thing is way too nice to bash it into the ground and it's too light for a paper weight. I'm thinking I should put a few more batteries thru the B400 and I will feel better about spreading Gaui debris across the yard.

Well, I been there!

I spent far too long keeping my GAUI as a paperweight (literally).
But now I'm almost finished, err with the current iteration on this project, as I know know.
I could kick myself...
