Hey I had a problem with my last 2 in 1 I would connect and disconnect for charging purposes and before I knew it the wire had failed and so the helicopter went down.
I would like to know if I could put a switch and a charge plug that way the battery never comes undone but can still charge it. Will the 2 in 1 be okay charging like that way is it possible? Please help
Thanks Sean

you would have to be using a switch that could handle the current you would be pulling through it (i dont know what sort of current these things pull though)
also it would have to be between the batt and the regulator.
other than that i dont see why not.

A switch shouldn't an issue on a nitro because the current requirements are minuscule compared to an electric. It's all that current consumed by the electric motor that makes a switch unfeasible for an electric.

You could put a second power lead onto the battery for charging, thus leaving the battery always hooked up to the 2in1.
When charging you would have to have the heli turned off but that would be the case anywho.
You wont need a switch extra.

I found the neatest way was to make up a lead and charge by the balancer lead - that leaves the main power lead in situ the whole time and reduces chance of connection failure

I ALWAYS remove my lipos from the helicopters while charging. If something happened and my battery decided to release it's energy it is only going to take itself out.
I would suggest you all do the same.

I agree with the removal theory of charging. If you don't, then at least use a charger that charges thru the balance leads. Common sense RC makes a good charger that charges thru the balance leads, and gives voltage readings on each cell. It will also stop charging any full cells and only charge the low one.

You have all helped a lot. I have a couple of batteries that I run for my 600 but the unplugging and plugging has caused a crash from a wire that wore out and was not easily seen. What is the best battery to run for the 2 in 1? (getting the most flights) Right now I get about 3 flights with the 9452 Servos and 8300G tail with a hitec servo for the throttle.
Thanks Again Sean

I charge using my Blade CP lipo charger/balancer. It has the same balance connector and charges at a safe 0.5 amp.

I NEVER charge lipos while attached to the heli. I use a steel box that is designed to house electrical contactors to charge my LIPOs in. That way, if something goes bad nothing else will be damaged.
Google LIPO fire and you'll see why.

Good advice  - if you;re gonna do that you'd need a better plug/socket than the little JST red connectors as found on the stock Align lipo which are not made for repeated doing and undoing - something like a mini-Deans. Personally I use a good quality lipo (like the FP EVOLite) and charge through the balancer via the balance plug. I consider the chances of a lipo fire in a 2S cell connected via a voltage monitoring balancer at 0.5C which can cut off the charge to be pretty remote. The advice never to leave a lipo charging unattended holds good too.

I got deans on all my lipos, and I charge though them. I have balanced them and have yet to get more than the minimum voltage diffrence. I have treated them all real good so maybe that's the reason they haven't had cell voltages that are off.

try this one:
it comes with a switch and the regualtor doesn't get hot like the 2 in 1 because it's a switching regualtor, a little more expensive though...
