Most people here know what carbon fiber is - its the stuff our frames are made from. Its light, strong and it also conducts electricity.
Then theres G10. I personally, know very little about this material. I do know its cheaper, heavier and does NOT conduct electricity. It also looks identical to cf.
So anyway, a few months back, I was following an ep100 thread on another forum and somebody claimed that the original cf frame was changed to G10 on later models. I'd forgotten all about this until a friend seen my new 200 and asked if it was carbon. I told him it was and he asked how come it was silver instead of black? Ummm.....
So tonight I conducted a rather simple test to find out whats what.
I got a multimeter and set it to beep test. I held the two probes to the frame plates of the 200 and got a beep. It conducts electricity then so chances are that the frame is cf.
Then I held the probes to the cf upgrade skids - no beep. I held the probes within 1mm of each other on the rough side of the skids and still no beep. No way these skids are cf then... It might also explain why they weigh more than the standard skids.

they are both composit material.

G-10 is a Fiberglass for circuit boards. has more flex so it absorbs vibes better, cheaper and easier to mill parts from.

CF is very stiff and light, expensive because world supplies are in high demand.

Cf is also combined with or over cheaper materials so they use less and charge us more for the CF look. I know Align is famous for this type of behavior.

Are we geeks around here, or what? Interesting find.
