Other than the fact that that the HB servo will strip in the first crash that looks like a good setup. What is your flying style?

I am not "SPANKING" it. Just tooling around right now. A little inverted hovering, loops, and rolls!

HMMMMMM.....Same Speed as the HS225 MG....a little more torque...and 30 Bucks more per servo. Could someone convice me why this investment makes sense?

Weird i just searched this forum the servos you have and found none, so your the only one that uses them, weird how every one uses the ones i suggested.

I guess it comes down to you get what you pay for. Me i prefer to spend the extra $$ and get a better servo, ESPECIALLY when it is the main ones that are controlling a expensive heli.

Hello everyone. I am thinking about a new TREX500 too.
Anybody can post a "standard" (I know... there is no standard...but...) set up / cost for a TREX500. (not including remote and receiver).

I use them on my 6S Planes in the wings! They work great and are light....not saying they aren't better than F's...they were installed by a microheli team member upon his reccomendation! Just curious about everyones input...Thanks Itsparks.

I am using the 225mg servos on cyclic right now. I have the dig5425mg brand new in the box ready to go on the copter, but I don't know if I am going to install them. The 5425 and the 225 use the same gears and cases, its just the 225 are not digital.

I will probably switch to the new jr servos when I see them, but I am a jr fan.

Align T-rex Trex 500 CF (425 carbon fiber bladesX1 , RCE-BL60G 60A , 500L Brushless motor), $500.
S9650 x 3, $150.
GY-401+S9254, $200.
6s 2500 Evolite battery x 2, $310.
Total: 500+150+200+310 = $1160.

Did I miss anything?
$1160 + my radio = A RTF T-REX500!

If your going to spend the extra $$ on new servos why not get good servos like JR Z3650s. they are MG, .09 second transit time, 51oz of torque. awsome servos, well worth the extra money.

Do you already have the 225's? If so, you might as well give them a try.

I bought my 500 a few weeks ago so I just did all the research. It seems the perfect servo for cyclic would be a 9650 MG, but that doesn't exist so there seem to be a three servos that are the most popular for cyclic:

-- 5245s - Fairly inexpensive, digital, metal gears, good speed and torque. The downside is that cases break in a crash (instead of gears) and have been hard to get at times. Once something breaks I'm not sure if it makes a difference if its a case or gears.

-- 9650's - Again, fairly inexpensive, digital, good speed and torque. The downside is that gears break in a crash. I chose these over the 5245s b/c the gears that break are supposed to be dirt cheap and seem to be readily available. I bought my T500 as a combo and these were not appreciably more than the 5245s. I didn't consider the 225s only b/c the are not digital and I was lead to believe that the digitals are the way to go. Who knows? I'm new to helis and these servos do seem very fast.

--JR Z9650s - These might be the ticket. They are the metal gear version of the 3400G. They are a bit pricey at $75-$80 but they are digital, metal gears, good speed and torque (slightly less torque than the above mentioned but faster at 6v). Everyone who has them seems to be very happy. I probably would have selected these servos but they were out of stock when I ordered my 500 from Grand RC. Patience pays because I still don't have my bird ready to go, so I could have easily waited, but you know how that goes.

My guess is that only the most experienced pilots are going to notice big differences between the above servos (including the 225 since it is the same as the 5245). The difference becomes initial cost and crash considerations (parts availability, cost and hassle of repair).

I'd be really interested in hearing from folks that have experience with more than one of the above. Where do you see a difference? How much of a difference? Was it worth it?

Double check your post...I don't think the 9650's have metal gears in them. Thats why they break in a crash. Also, 5245 has a new case, but noone has crashed with the new ones for research sake haha.

I use HS-225MGs with no complaints. Fast, can't beat the price and they are metal gear!
