Replacing my feathering shaft and there are a few washers/spacers there. All but one are flat washers and one has a little raised side to it (x2 for each side). I am not sure if the raissed side washer goes against the o-ring, or if it should go up against the bearing that is inside the blade holder. Anyone know?

Also, I carefully took it apart, but I see only two spacers on one side of the feathering shaft and four spacers on the other side. Why the difference? Anyone know that one?

raised side against bearing

Thanks Socal, just watched the Blade400 repair video by Rob Moll and see it now. In a hurry to get it flying so I asked first, then looked. Sorry for the trouble and wasted post guys. Also found the extra washers on the other side. They were stuck together so well, it seemed like one washer.

raised side goes towards the bearing and the shims (washers) should be the same on both sides, mine came with two but now I have 3 on each. This video really helped me on my first re-build. Good luck.

Ok, I got a little ahead of myself. I should have watched the whole video by Rob Moll before beginning. I did not take a measurement on my flybar and paddles. Anyone know what measurement I should start with or should I just get it close to where I think it was and make sure it is equal on both sides?

on the fly bar the inner set screw locations is the position

In Bob Moll's video, he measures the distance between the flybar paddle adapters and the flybar paddle control frame arm with a dial micrometer. The rest of the assembly I think I have. I am just not sure how critical that distance is.

you want it to be even on both sides or you'lll induce an imbalance which will show up as a vibration.

Ok, I was able to see where the flaybar paddle adapters were on my old flybar. The set screw marked the flybar as well as signs of thread lock on it. I layed it up next to my new flybar and presto, we have the placement. Below is a shot of the measurement and points of reference.

Head is back together, landing gear on... The only thing left is the tailboom, but it does not look like I will be done before the rain comes. :(

Ok, need more coffee and then watch a tailboom replacement video. Thanks Sokal.

I also had some photos of the worst damage on my heli so I though I would drop them in here as well.

Sokal! Ah!!! Help!!! I need the end of the tailboom video. Bent my tail boom and that is all I have left to do on my repair, but scared to take it apart myself.

I have searched here and YT, where can I find a video on tail boom replacement?

Ok, took my time, examined each screw I turned, marked my old boom (so I roughly know where to line up my replacement boom)... I think I have it fugured out. Never mind.

Looks like i'm in the same boat. I took off and was doing ok, had it in idle up mode and went up about 12 feet and a gust of wind came along and yep guess what, BAM!
I went over my head and directly into my neighbors fence which is about 10-15 above me as we have a large retaining wall. Instant KaBam! Broke my new super cool carbon blades and when I went to put new blades on I discovered the bent feather shaft oh well i'll call and see if my LHS has some. Wish me luck!

Well I will tell you from experience now Hawk, if you are mechanically inclined, it is a breeze to work on this heli. Man, working on it is almost just as fun a flying it. But nothing makes the crashing worth while at all.

I need to balance my new blades, bolt them on and I am set. WAHOOO!

All done! :happyd

I think the most time consimung part of this repair waas driving to the LHS. Of couse, I could not have done it so easily without help from various videos from great people like Sokal and Rob Moll. Thanks for all your efforts guys.

Now to R&R my training gear and see how she runs.

What an awesome hobby!

Darkhawk,

I don't know your level of flying but if you're fairly new I'd stick with the stock woodies.
They're actually pretty good and if you're just starting out, and are going to crash a lot, you want them to break easily to minimize damage to other parts.
Besides, you can get almost three sets for the price of the CF's.

Don't forget to check your main shaft and all of your servo gears.
Breaking the CF's like that, chances are you've more damage than you might expect.

Sokal and Bill Moll. Thanks for all your efforts guys.

That would be Rob Moll, no?

Hey Heli sounds like you are getting sucked in faster than me LOL it gets very addicting.

Well guess what?

I got my 600 airborn last night OMG this thing is scary, shouldn't have done it (way too much wind) I just finished getting all the links perfect and was playing with the radio settings when the mrs. came out and said I just got 2 batts in the mail. I ordered them especially for the 600 3 cell, 4000 mah so I said screw it and tried it out.

Awesome sound - lifted went forward about 10-20 feet no biggie (other than the sound) and THEN I lifted the nose to bring her back tail in and saw the rotor span. HOLLY CRAP! that's when it het me how HUGE this thing really is.

Gonna be too windy all weekend but I may have to chance it anyhow, if I do I'll have my son record it.

Ok, you guys tell me, was my rebuild a success? Are my blades balanced? I ran a little test in my living room floor to see if it shakes and shimmies.

Ouch. Well at least it is before the weekend.

I was very pleased when I went to the HS today. They had all the parts and some of them in duplicate. The price, same as online. Could not believe that. Picked up a HeliMax balancer too. It works well. Was interesting to see how off the pair of blades were. They were not bad, but doing it and knowing they would be smooth felt great. What is real nice, I get to use my NICE dial micrometer I bought when MD'ing myself. It did not get much use for a while, but now it is in my heli box. ;)

Helis? I have two. A Dragonfly (which is just like the Eflite mini). Crashed it a bunch. Barely hovered. WIll try again now that I have done so with the Blade, may be easier. And the sim and yes, I too have a Havoc Heli. :wow2:

Thanks again for all your help Lock. :noteworthy And Sokal and everyone else!
