Anyone tried the 8717 for tail rotor control? It seems it's got the speed and precision and can be used without voltage regulation. I just burned up my 8417 that has been working great for a couple seasons. Finally gave up.

from what I heard it should do ok at 8v, but I think at 6 or so it might be a tad slow compared to a 8900g or the futaba's. I dunno though. Servo seems damm fast to me in the spec's

I have one on my T-Rex 500 but I am a noob and not pushing to hard but so far it has done fine. As my skill gets better then I will push it harder and see if she holds. But I am like you want a tail servo I can run @ 6v or higher. I am nose heavy and want a full size servo and it close to speed to alot of the tail servo that people have on the 500

Before any replies to this message, I went ahead and ordered. Installed it Saturday morning. This will now be my servo of choice for the tail rotor control as well as cyclic/collective control. Rock solid and fast. I'm no super heli pilot so it works perfect for me. My 8417 would be quite warm after each flight so I knew it's life would be short. This 8717 was cool to the touch.

I'd be interested in what some of the high end fliers have to say about that servo in the tail.

If it was "quite warm" then you're probably running too much gain.

I thought the same thing. I had the gain turned up just where it would stop drifting and it still came back warm.

The problem is, on the tail the servo is working a LOT more than any other position. You are likely to see very short life with an 8717 on the tail at 6 volts or higher.
