How long were you flying or how long was the battery connected before it happened?

Most likely one of your spindle bolts was loose or failed resulting in blade separation. The chances of a lipo exploding in flight are really, really low.
If you lost your canopy it's possible that that came off first and went into the blades.
I really doubt your lipo exploded.

when it hit the ground the battery was on fire,,but i do agree the spindle was probably loose to cause the seperation.and that battery did have a little damage to the front of it pre flight.

ya really bummed i didnt have video,,it made a pop sound when the blades and the canopy flew off and had black smoke coming out of the battery.the canopy rod that i forget the name of was still connected on both sides with about an inch of the rod still attached on both sides,,it was like the center of the rod was blow apart..and the velcro where the battery attaches to was all wet from what ever came out of that battery.

Ohh the lipo did leak and catched on fire huh. No punt here but let this be a very nice lesson to everybody, lipos are very dangerous period, handle it very good. And one more point we all do pre-flight check to the bird but do we check the lipo everytime, I don't do you?

It didnt explode, what you meant to say was that it caught on fire. When someone says explosion, im thinking dynamite, I know LiPos don't go like dynamite.

Oh well I may differ LIPOS can go boom pretty good. Mine did when it was charging.
Anyway back to topic, I think you battery pack must be rubbing off the motor and just got too hot and bang or boom. Thats the only thing I can think of but if you crashed your LIPO it could also do it but that is rare I think.
One of 600 flier got his Lipo burn in midflight but not sure.
Inspect the heli well after flight.

Agree
My first throught when I read this was the Lipo rubbing on the motor...maybe pushed onto the motor when fitting the canopy. Ive nearly done it before but always look through the canopy now to check before takeoff.

I use t rex canopy it goes on so easy. cheaper stronger. I did have to add 2" of copper pipe ripped in 1/2 ,hot glued behind boom fin for balance but if i get another boom strike it should be good protection.
