I was wondering if anyone had a used/destroyed tail motor to take apart and see if there is any location that can be used to drill a cooling hole through and not hit magnent?

Got pics?

That would be a waste of time. Those motors are so small that you could not make enough openings to be effective.

What does work are heat sinks.

Either this GWS (http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=V415757&pid=gws050) heat sink, or this E-Sky (http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=W262062&pid=NESKV013) heat sink.

Heat sinks don't work.
The heat is on the inside of the motor.
By the time an external heat sink removes 1 btu of heat, 100 more have been produced.

1 or 2 small holes in the end bell for inlet, and 2 on the sides would be perfect and possibly be a centrifugal cooling system.

Heatsink prevent thermal run away and lower average temperatures.

They are effective but how effective is a matter of mass and material. Look towards CPU's and audio amplifiers to see classic examples of heat being absorbed and radiated effectively using heatsinks.

Venting a motor is always a good thing if the design allows it but I have to question if it would be more effective that a good heatsink.
