View Full Version : first hover of my new 600n
Well finally finished my 600n sport . Thanks to Bob and everyone on the freak.:) If I figure out how to post pics I will.
Took the heli out to the back garden and ran 5 tanks just hovering.( this is my fisrt nitro) It was quite windy but it hovered perfectly.Fantastic !!!!!
Just one question. The engine ran quiet and plenty of smoke but just as the fuel ran out the engine began to scream and the head speed went ballistic ! The sound the engine made was the sound I was expecting it to make when I first started it ( having heard nitro cars in the past) Is this normal? This is my set up:-
OS 50 hyper
Hatori 546 ( recommended by LHS as a quiet muffler)
Align 2 in 1
cool power 10% LV ( as recommended by my LHS)
Throttle curves 0 -18- 33- 52- 80
Started out with 3 turns on needle valve and now down to 2 1/4
I’m also have training gear on ( Chicken)
I’m hoping to take it out to the field this weekend all being ok.
Thanks .
Anthony

As the fuel ran out, it starts sucking some air. So it leans out and speeds up. Get a header tank and land when you see the main empty. This might help you avoid an unexpected auto someday.

Or just land when the tank gets down to about 1/2" or so. That's what I do.

Yep, agree. A very lean run like that could kill your glow plug too.

Makes for a pretty short flight doesn't it?

You do realize I said 1/2 inch and not 1/2 tank, don't you? I got about 8.5 minutes on my last flight.

Oh I don't think so, I think you just read it too fast, I missed it as well! You just opened your mouth first;)

You may have mistaken the double-quote inch abbreviation as a smudge on your screen. Yeah...that's it...that's the ticket. (I hope that reference wasn't lost on anybody here).

Do yourself and your engine a favor.....get some Curtis Youngblood 30% nitro...

That youngblood 30 is expensive. I started buying wildcat 15%

I picked up some CY 30% nitro at the Toledo show for 17 bucks a gallon.....
I'm using 10% for running in. 30% wildcat is £20 ($40) in the UK and too much for me. I may try 15% next time
Thanks

@ thebum- I got your reference, let me add "yeah there was a smudge on my screen, and I zoomed in on it and it looked like the Mona Lisa. So I sold it on e-bay for $657,000, a enlarged picture of a smudge that looked like the Mona Lisa for $657,000 thats the ticket."

I hve been using Cool Power 30 % and it works great. Smokes alot but there is no need for after oiling the engine when you put your toy away.
