Hey all,

Well I have had my blade 400 for a couple weeks now and love it. The only thing is I am a little dissapointed with the tail not holding all that well. I am not a real advanced flyer yet but can easily manage FF RV hovering in all oreintations etc. Anyways, I really just think I am going to go buy the futaba GY401 but am not sure what servo to select to go with this. Because I am still kinda a noob I do not want to be concerned about modding anything. Just a nice easy replacement. Cost is not a huge concern. If I could get the gyro and servo for 250 that would be nice. Any ideas??

Thanks for the help,

Jer

If you are going to stick with the Stock ESC, then I would suggest a Futaba 9257 to go with the GY-401 Gyro. If you are thinking of replacing the stock ESC and running a 6v BEC anytime soon, then I would go with the Futaba 9650.

I just replaced the stock gyro and servo on my Blade 400 with a JR G770 Gyro and the 3500 servo. I got them at my LHS as a combo for $224.00

The G770 was easy to setup and holds MUCH better that stock. The piro rate is unbelievable with this setup, in fact I need to turn it down some; my mind just isn't that fast anymore.

I just bought the Hitec 5000 + 5083 servo of ebay for $146 US including freight. Havent tested it as still waiting for the TX to return...

My vote would have been for the 3400g. I have mine and love it.

I do have a 6V BEC and had the GY401-S9650 combo --- I'm not saying its any chump, but I do like the 3400G better.

Hey, wow great input guys. Thanks. I have heard a lot about the 3400g. Who is the mfg of this servo? Is it JR. Also, will this servo drop right in without mods? I think I am leaning towards this one,

Thanks again,

Jer

Yup JR makes the 3400G and it rocks. I put a Futaba GY401/JR 3400G combo on mine, and it was like night and day over the stock gyro and servo. The old gyro would seem to glitch every now and then, and my tail would swing maybe 15-20 degrees (possibly a setup error, I suppose), traveling piros weren't cosistent at all, and I managed to blow out the tail quite a few times in FBF. Now with the 401/3400G combo and K&B tail blades the tail is extremely solid. Much more consistent piro rate, no more blowing out the tail, and no more glitching. Just rock solid goodness.

I followed Finless Bob's 401 setup vid here: Futaba 401 gyro setup (48 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex450&filename=gyro_setup.wmv)

The JR 3500G is an upgrade to the 3400G at about the same price so I wanted it. I couldn't find it separately but you can get it packaged with the G770 3D gyro. Works great for me.

Sounds like a worthy upgrade. Does it fit right in place without modding anything?

I've got the JR 3400g on my heli and it seems to work really well. I have found that it is very responsive and if the Gyro vibrates at all that it will make your Heli tail shake from left to right. I have since put new double sided tape on the stock gyro and it works better now. As soon as I get my new feathering shaft kit, i'll be back in the air.
