I do not know if it's a good idea, but I think the main shaft is too soft and it folds too easily and therefore, I thought him to undergo a heat treatment to increase the hardness.:noteworthy

I'm not a metalurgist, but I do work in Manufacturing. If the metal does not have a high enough carbon content, it will not heat treat well. The steel should be a high carbon alloy steel like 4140.
Also by heattreating you could stress relieve the shaft so badly, that you wouldn't be able to use it anyways...
Also keep in mind, if you make 1 thing more rigid, you will simply break somewhere else.
I have bent 3 main shafts and not broke any plastic parts in the head. I have only ever broke 1 blade grip and that was early on.
All in all, I think it is a pretty good design except for the dampening. That seems to be the biggest complaint I have seen.

Yup, I'd rather have to replace a main shaft and spindle every time instead of a head part or main gear/one way bearing.:thumbup:
