View Full Version : Throttle problems

Just broke in a new 600n over the weekend and I think I have a possible throttle problem. I swear when I hit about 25% throttle it jumps to about 50% throttle and then stabilizes. I have a linear throttle curve of 0-100 and I am in normal mode on a DX-7 and I have a GV-1 running the throttle . It almost seems like I hit a certain point on the throttle and it jumps to idle up 1. I've been very busy with work and my brain is toast, so I'm probably missing something stupid! Any suggestions?

Never mind, I was having a brain:badair:. My brain is toast! The GV-1 one is kicking in at about 25% throttle, there for the jump. If I'm wrong please correct me! Also, should I run a GV-1 in normal mode?

It sounds like a reasonable explanation to me.
I'm currently running my Multigov in Normal mode at 1800 rpm. I'm considering increasing that to 1900, though.

I know some people recommend not using a gov or limiter in normal mode as it may mask tuning issues.

The only reason I'm using it in Normal mode is because I haven't gotten the courage up to switch to idle-up. I have this deathly fear that I'll end up driving the heli into the ground and my flight abilities have been quite shaky up until now. However, last weekend's flying went well enough that I may try idle-up the next time I go out.
Besides, I wouldn't know a good tune on an engine if it bit me in the face. The closest I have gotten so far is using backplate temperature to determine if I'm running significantly lean or significantly rich.

Thanks guys for the responses! I had my head somewhere else when I was breaking it in and should have had the GV-1 turned off for tuning purposes, but if your new to the nitro world of helicopters, I would almost leave it off in normal mode. Once the governor kicks in, there's no feathering the throttle after that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the governor is there to maintain a constant speed (rpm) unless told otherwise.
Is there any other way of adjusting the rpm after it's running with a DX-7, besides using the subtrim? What is a decent rpm for just hovering ? Thanks

use throttle curves to set your headspeeds in all modes, then use the governor to keep it consistent (that way if the governor quits, you have your throttle curves to fall back onto). 1700-1800 is good for hovering. 1900-2200 for aerobatics to 3D
