View Full Version : Rebuilding stock servos...

I just stripped all three servos in the front of my B4. Since I cannot really afford to upgrade servos right now, I am going to rebuild the stock servos for the time being. What kind of grease if any do I need to use on the servo gears when I rebuild it. I have some black grease for thrust bearing, I also have some TriFlow in my heli box. Now, I also have some white lithium grease and other commons lubricants. What should I use?

I use Hob-E-Lube White Grease that I got from my LHS. It's plastic compatible. If you use a grease that's not plastic compatible, then you could ruin the plastic gears or servo. I don't know if Lithium grease is plastic compatible because there seems to be a solvent in it (at least in the aerosol kind.). I'd go order some Hob-E-Lube White Grease if I were you just to be safe.

I have some grease called Super Lube. It is white grease with Teflon. I got it back in my model train days. I think it is plastic compatible. Guy at my LHS said some black grease I picked up the other day for my thrust bearings was ok to use too. Not sure that I fully trust them though. I do not think they are too into helis at the store. Anyone familiar with SuperLube? Will it work?

I know I don't trust the guys at my LHS. One of them told me a certain set of gears would work in the stock servos even though the part numbers were different, but they didn't work.

That white grease with teflon sounds like the correct stuff. I'd use it.

Cool, thanks Leadworks.

Cannot wait to get off work today and get to the LHS and get my gears and start my repairs. Let's just hope there is nothing else bent or broken that I cannot see.

Maybe by the time I am ready to upgrade servos, HH will come out with some all metal bolt and go servos for the B4. We could sure use them it sounds like.

no prob. :cheers Isn't it cool that the gears are only $2.99!

Yes it is. For the price of one servo, I can rebuild three. Not too bad. And I really do not mind keeping my blade stock right now. Makes it easier on me making repairs and getting support/help without having a bunch of aftermarket parts to factor into things right now.

It'd be a lot cooler if I could find replacement gears at my LHS!

Would be even cooler if I HAD a LHS :rolling

Cant believe I live in paradise (Noosa) and the only LHS is a Toyworld that doesnt carry radio controlled stuff.

I hear that...100 miles, over two mountain passes, is my LHS.

White lithium grease is what is usually used for servo gears.
Hitec also sells a small tube of that to use in their and other servos.

Well, they are all now rebuilt and the heli is back together. Ended up bending the feathering shaft too. I'm glad they sell them in pairs. That second one paid off.

I think my main shaft might be a tiny bit bent. So hard to tell. I spun it very carefully and slowly looking down on it. I cannot tell if my eyes are messing with me or not. Not enough daylight left so I guess I will find out tomorrow or Thursday if it is. I have a replacement if so.

How difficult is a main shaft replacement in the B400? Looks fairly straight forward. Any difficulties? Problems?

It was really easy when I did mine. No problems that I can remember.
