Lock,
I am very sorry to hear that. I know you probably put a lot of time, effort and not to mention money into getting it in the air.
What a disappointment.

Damn Lock, so sorry to hear. I know you were proud of that beast, as you should have been. I hope you are able to positively determine what caused the fire so should you venture that way again it can be prevented.
These Lipos scare me a bit. Ex-fireman... I've always had a small fear of coming home and finding my house in ashes, FD trucks lining the street. Seen the shock on people faces before. Ain't a good thing. Makes me want to build a box outside the house well away from anything flammable to store my batteries in. Many people say they are dangerous, many say they are not. I know HH didn't want me to ship a bad one back to them. "To dangerous" they said.

Lock that blows!! I hope you are able to figure out what went wrong, otherwise it will probably be a tough horse to get back on (the larger helis) I know I am contemplating a 500 or 600 next but the pricetag is intimidating!
Sorry to hear about it man,

Lock - I am really sorry to hear that. That's really too bad. The big helis have some real advantages. Unfortunately, when you screw one up, it's a lot more expensive.:arggg:
You'll get back on that horse soon, not to worry. I hope you can figure out what went wrong :thinking so it doesn't happen again.

Thanks guys. So I fired up the HBFP and buzzed around (not the same) well hopefully my 400 parts will arrive tonight.
Only thing I cant think of is low voltage, would a lipo with low voltage ignite?

I doubt the heli would be flying if one of the cells got that low... I would guess a short in the wiring at some point, but I'm not sure.

all the wiring was still intact, it was something internal. If it was one battery yeah it wouldn't fly but.....running 2 sets of 2 in parallel and then those 2 in series.......couldn't 1 battery be very low but the other 3 not so it would still fly? I mean it can run off of 2 but with shorter flights.

Yeah I didnt consider just how many cells you have to run on the 600, I supposed one of them could have easily gotten too low and yet still flown just fine.

Lock - As batteries discharge the internal resistance goes up. The current draw through the battery and the voltage drop due to internal resistance creates heat. So, with increased internal resistance and a lot of amp draw, yes it's possible with a low cell to smoke a batt.
I wonder about running batts in parallel. If one of the batts is dead, which battery gets smoked, the charged battery or the dead battery. I think it could be either. The low cell will create more heat given the same amp draw. However, since the low battery has higher resistance, more current will flow through the good battery possibly overloading it. so, depending on the conditions, either one could smoke.
As all the EEs I know say, Electricity runs on smoke so adjust current for least smoke. Cause when the smoke gets out, it won't run anymore.:wow2:

yeah, I had them in a tray 2 in back 2 up front maybe an inch inbetween, the 2 in the back are toast the 2 in the front no damage at all. The plastic wrap on 1 did start to melt, I have them sitting outside in a metal container just incase......and if I try to charge them I will do it outside.

OMG sorry lock when this happened. I really want to see that beast in action this weekend. So its the lipo fire, man another fireball in the air. Hope you can figure it out, can we see some pics of it.

Sorry to hear that you lost 600. I know how you feel. Don't worry just get back and rebuild, with 6s rather then going 3s2p. :) Any good luck with rebuild and if you got photo lets see it so I don't make the same mistake :)
What are the servos are you looking at? if you aren't doing hard 3d, I heard that 821s are okay, and cheap as welll :)
Good Luck and Happy Hunting

Edit: nevermind found them JR

Well, Santa (UPS) finally got here with my metal gears for the B400, its almost 6 here. Lets see if I can get some air time with something more powerfull then a HBFP :) although I do love that little guy....good trainer.

Well? Did you get her fixed? And I forget, what metal gears did you order?

Took all freaking night! BUT, she is humming like before (maybe better).
I guess I am better at crashing then I thought I was. Get this.... Servos, done. Feather shaft done. Should be ready to fly. Pre-flight check hold tail spin main rotor it spins freely, Argh! my belt is loose - tighten - test - still spins freely! Holly crap my belt must be fried! Nope, 2 screws to the main shaft 1 at very bottom the other holds the head.....can you believe the screw at the top just snapped in half?! Just like a shear pin on the cp pro. That must have been a worse crash than it looked to break that screw like that.....
Anywhosit, I am gonna play hooky tomorrow and fine tune it and make a trip to home depot to paint my blades like ottos......Love the Green, Will go good with my green tail blades :)
