Hatori Gas Muffler quiet and powerful or TRM Pipe once it is released, could be a little while on it.

Its an inconsistent phenomena. I've talked to folks who have never had them come loose and at the same time I've had them come loose in just a few seconds.

Rich Sabin is working with Hatori Japan on a solution to this that will hopefully be available separately so those folks that already have the pipe and have experienced the problem can get one.

I know of at least 14 who don't have the problem anymore. ;)

Fair enough Baja but I don't think I should have to pay the extra money for a ss header when I've already put out 350.00 can dollars for something that should work! When I get my spec flying again or ready to fly I think I'll just snub hatori, (unless they offer me a free fix) wait and get the TRM pipe !

Cheers all

If I can find the screws, I think I'll put the stock muffler back on. At this point I'm not throwing any more money at the Spectra. I did and so far it has not been worth it. The Hatori muffler was a big chunk of $ on this project and IMO has ruined the experience.

I don't blame you guys for being upset. I was really disappointed with my Hatori's falling off myself. I could not get either one of them to stay on any motor I have tested and that is why out of despiration I traded over 2K worth of work for 4 of the headers to test. Not a good situation, but there is no denying how good the Hatori Mufflers and Pipes are. The SB-50 can't be beat it seems for power and smoothness on the Hyper 50 and the SB-16 and SB-17 seem to be the best choice right now for YS91 and OS91.

The Hatori Gas mufflers produce good power, are quiet and keep the motor temps down, they just fall off with that big thick chunk of aluminum for the header, it is really ashame. I to hope Hatori will work with people who bought them. Sabin was very interested in teh SS headers Fritz made at IRCHA, maybe Hatori will make them and offer them for pretty cheap to people with the fall-offs??? Not sure....

The TRM protopipe John is testing seems to really kick up the power. It is the first pipe designed for a heli and not just an existing pipe with cones welded on it from what I hear.

Has anybody tried useing high temp silicone instead of the gasket and also on the threads of the bolts, then let it dry and see what happens, that is what we use on big motors for airplanes and the mufflers stay on.

Been there and done that. It did not work. I do not use the gasket anyway no matter what gas exhaust I use. I use high temp silicone w/copper for the mating surfaces.

I have a Hatori and it has never loosened up, It has the set screws and also the bolts that go across the mating surface. I use the gasket with high Temp silicone as well. 2 gallons of Ozark and still hasnt loosened up. Mine looks like the new version but I bought it quite some time ago from Ricks and had to wait about a month to get it so it might be the new version.
