There's a topic on RR and it has been mentioned that there will be new head dampeners from MA in "2 weeks" but no info. Can anyone in the know chime in here and give us any details?

Thanks,
Angelo

There are new one piece dampers being molded. These fit directly into the existing damper cavities for the extreme and tempest heads (or any of the xcell heads that used two damper o-rings.

The initial version will be the stiffer 90 durometer. There will likely be additional stiffness ratings available later.

The individual o-ring dampers will continue to be available.

I'll get a picture posted soon

There are some significant advantages to the new dampeners. The orings tend to deform very quickly and within a few flights the spindle is not centered in the head block. Also the dampening is inconsistent due to the deformation of the orings.

The new dampeners are easier to install. They are made of a very resilient material that is not deforming like the orings do. They also fit the cavity in the head block so the dampening is much more consistent. These 90 duro versions are VERY stiff and much stiffer on the head than 2 double white dot 90 duro orings. This is another good step forward. There are more improvements on the way.

Is it too soon to ask for a part number - I'd like to have my hobby shop preorder them for me.

Also will the hot setup be these new dampeners and one thick shim (0332) per side?

Thanks,
Angelo

They will come with the correct shim made to fit in the dampener. I am not sure there is a PN yet.

It will be a little bit yet. Molds where being finalized and then they will be coming along.

I am very happy with them.

Looks like probably a year or so. We will not know for sure until they need to be replaced, but there is absolutely no wear in over a month of hard use.

I thought you were looking for a titanium reinforced crown gear?? :rolling

Don't think there is a PN yet. Very soon though as Tim said they are being made right now.

Got some of the new one piece head dampeners this weekend. 0844-12
What a difference these dampeners are over the o-ring type.
They are 90 durometer and they do an excellent job. It seems they keep the spindle more straight within the head block during flight.
Along with the new fly bar carrier, this really improves the flight of the model.

At the Black Sheep event I tested the dampeners on my Tempest FAI head. The new dampeners really helped with the aerobatics. But I could not hover the model with the head turning less than 1750 rpm. If I got it below 1750 rpm severe mast bumping starting taking place. Going to get some of the new one piece dampeners that are in the 50 to 60 durometer range to try in the FAI head. This really should make a great rotor head even better.
Order some of the new dampeners 0844-12 from your MA dealer. They are now available. Ray's Heli Resources was selling them at BSRC this weekend.

I just called my ALHS to ask about getting some 844-12 and the guy said that they had them.. But he described them as four O-Rings, which I thought (from reading this thread) they were not supposed to be. So I told him I didn't want them.

What do these new dampers look like? A picture would be nice.

The new one piece dampeners are about 1/2 thick. One end is rounded and the other end is flat. There is two in a package and there is also two shims.

The dampeners are black and made of rubber. They are the same outside diameter of the O-ring dampeners. But nearly 3 times thicker.

So I am installing the new 1 pc. 0844-12 dampners in a head that does not have the "C" clip style main shaft. What shims do y'all recommend to go along with the 0840-10 shims that go in the recessed area of the dampners?
PS Yes it is a Alum. head block.

Laddy,
I just used the shims that came with the dampeners when I installed them in a head block that didn't have the clipped axle.
This was on a Tempest.

These pics are not great, but I hope you can get the general idea.

The bottom pic is the best to see the detail of the rounded and flat sides of the new dampeners.

Thanks David. That is how i have it but just was not sure.
Baja 170, i have them so i know what they look like. They just have instructions for the "C" clip blade axle.

I posted the pics for Mark, he is the one who asked above.

Did you get them in on the non-clipped axle OK?
