Has anyone ever weighed the stock plastic collective arm against the carbon upgrade
(PV0432 Carbon/Alum Collective Set 60/90) it cost $75.. pricey & wondering if the weight saving is justifiable!

I have a basic r60 that i upgraded to a 90 & am now looking to convert to carbon: frame, collective arm, boom, carbon TT drive

I think maybe the biggest weight saving will be in the main frames.. but by how much difference between aluminum frame & carbon exactly?

I do not have the data you requested but maybe this will help you decide.

Pitch arm: I noticed on my R50, the pitch arm had some flex and would actually twist on the bench as I worked the servo, so when I built my 90 I put the carbon one in from the get go.

Mainframe: Carbon vs. Aluminum? I'd say aluminum because; the R90 3D comes with the aluminum and TT worked on making that ship light. Second reason: if you look at photos around the net of the R90 SE, which came with carbon frames, most of them have aluminum frame stiffeners. I'd say the combination of the two of them is heavier than just an aluminum frame.

The carbon frame set alone from the 90se is heavier than the aluminum from the 90 standard. Then add on to that the frame stiffeners.

As far as the collective tray. I would guess they weigh about the same. But the rigidity it adds to the whole collective system is well worth it.

Carbon Heavier?? really, I would not have thought so but yes it is possible. I have the R60 aluminum frames... is this the same as the R90 standard frame?

Yes, the R60 is almost fully identical to the R90.

No the R90 frames are thicker. The carbon frames are thicker still. I don't remember the exact measurements. I think the R90 frames are only like .3mm thicker than the 60's. But don't quote me on that.

Along with that, the plastic collective tray is beefed up, the clutch is bigger, has a metal tail yoke, beefier blade grips and head block.

The best way to shave some weight is using the carbon frames without the bottom plate or aluminum frame stiffeners. They aren't needed. Plastic flybar cage and grips, no horizontal fin and the new plastic boom support mount will also help save weight.

Nem... I didn't know that the R90 kit had a "beefier" collective tray/arm. I'm have the plastic "Native" R60 collective arm.
Other than that I'm using the Gforce 90 headblock; Metal blade grips,TT metal flybar arm & S.S flybar.
I even still have the plastic fins... but not changing that as yet (I do think I get some noding in reverse flight from the H.Fin though)

You have to see them both side by side to actually see the difference. I remember when I first saw the two of them. It just looked like the added more weight. You can usually tell by the part numbers which ones are new. I have been out of it for a while but I think anything above PV0300 was a new part for the 90's. The fan casing and servo frame are new as well on the 90.

Most of what was actually change is not noticable. If your thinking of getting a new collective tray. Just go with the carbon one. The new 90 was flex's just as much as the old one.
