Just curious how many B400 owners out there would travel to Charlotte, NC for a B400 fun fly during the weekend if it was set up? The thought has crossed my mind. I work behind Lowe's Motor Speedway and think I might be able to get it set up to use one of the many parking fields near the speedway for such an event. Would have to do some looking into it but would consider doing so if there was enough interest.

Ok, now you're pushing it. In today's times, finding you one job would be hard enough, but in four different states... Give me a break. Pick one!

If they have a Habernero eating contest before the show I'm in, I may not fly because I have a hot sauce death wish but I would love to watch. Maybe be the flag guy for the 100 yard Porta-Pottie B-400 pylon race.

With enough lead time, extra vacation and such I could possibly make it. Right now there is no way. I just started a new job and I still haven't accumulated a week of vacation yet.

I've been to LMS a few times. (Raced on the kart track in the infield inside turns 3&4) Pick any of the parking lots to fly in. They're huge.

You've got to be kidding Mike? You will never believe where I work. WKA. World Karting? That is our kart track you ran on. LOL

Yeah - I raced karts from 73-78 and again from 2001-2004. Mostly OVKA and over at New Castle (no that's a fun track) I raced at LMS twice I think in 2002 & 2003. I ran Yamaha Masters. Had a top 10 finish the last time I was there and it was raining. (I was always really fast in the rain.) Still have 2 karts, 1 roller and another that could run with a little work. Thought about setting up the roller with a TaG and just riding over at New Castle. Over there that's a pretty good ride. Use to race enduros in the 70s. Ran at Mid-Ohio and IRP. 100mph on a mechanic's creeper is a pretty good ride too.

How about that. I came here in 2001. I'm TrailMix (damn, busted now).

You should set up a TaG. That class is really growing. We have had some BIG fields with them lately. New Castle is a great track. Never been there myself but seen many pictures and talked to Mark Dismore about it quite a few times. You do know the Dismore's own it now?

That's all a question of limited time and money. Or, basically, I only have limited time and money so I have to use it wisely. Know how to make a small fortune in racing, start with a large one.;) Man, I love racing though. I think once it gets in your blood, you're hooked.

In reality my ID should be hubbydadgolfskimike. I have 3 kids, one grown and 2 teens. Of course they have their activities. The wife and I run them all over town, Plus I tow trailers and we work events too. That's a full time job to go with my paying full time job.

Then there is golf. At my best, I am a scratch golfer. Since I am also 55 and I like tournament golf, I play a tournaments a year, i.e. USGA Sr. Open Sectional, USGA Sr. Am Sectional, Ohio Sr. Am, MVGA Sr. Metro. Plus I play every weekend from now through Nov, weather permitting.

In the winter there is skiing. This winter I was laid up (Cervical Fusion of C5-C6-C7) and didn't get to ski. Got back into RC because I couldn't really do anything else at the time.

The roller I have is a Birel CR-32V converted to a non-shifter kart. I figure i need about $2K to get a TaG. I've got everything else. I have a buddy (I know you've heard of him too) who has a garage at New Castle I can share with. I figure I need about another $1K to run the kart for the year. At this point, no racing. I'd just go over and run laps. What I really need to do first is get a car that gets better gas mileage than my truck so I can save some bucks to be able to afford it. Then I need to figure out if I have time to even get over there and run it. That will be hard since they want more of my time now.

Anyway, same old story, so many options, so little time.:cheers
Trailmix eh? I think I remember you from both times I was at LMS. Did you go to Daytona one year too?

HeliMix
04-25-2008, 01:40 PM
Yep, I went to Daytona my first three or so years in a row. Then I started staying home to save $. $ is why I do not race. Just cannot afford it anymore. When I raced last, it was in a 1/2 scale cup car. A friend of mine owned the three car team. He paid the bills and I kept it all running and made sure they made the grid. Racing is a disease just like helis. I do not compete anymore but I do go over to LMS when there are open practices and run some. I stopped for a bit for my helmet was shot and I hate using someone else

They need a 55 and older Masters class for TaG with about 10lbs extra weight for the O2 bottle.;)

I'd have to lose about 50 lbs to even think about running competitively again. Any chances of that this year were screwed up by the surgery I had.

The funny thing is what got me back into karting. I did a Skippy School at Mid-O in 2000. I didn't think I could afford to run any of that, so I went back to karting. (and probably spent even more:wow2:)

Yeah the racing habbit is hard to break. I even raced RC cars for a while. Mostly 1/12th with some 1/10th 4wd sedan and 1/8th on-road thrown in.

Dismore's track is a real good ride. 75mph on the long straights in a TaG, 95+ in a shifter. Full length is 1.1mile. The shifters lap at close to a minute. It's fast.

LMS is a great layout too. Turns 3-4-5-6-7 is a real challenge. We always come off the track there w/ the RR tire at 200* and the LR at 160*. 20 laps at LMS is a serious workout.

Yep, Mark has told me to come up and they would put me up and let me play all day. I really hope I can make that happen some day. LMS is a workout. And I think it is even bumpier now than when you last ran it.

Last time I raced a kart, it was for fun in Wisc at USA International (aka Shawano). Great track. Did a grudge match with another mag editor (Sean Buur GoRacing Mag). My seat was too big (TaG school kart). I let myself flop around in the seat. The Monday afterwards I returned to work, sore as heck. Three days later, I finally went to the Dr for I was having a hard time breathing. Did x-rays and I had three broken ribs. Talk about out of shape.

Bouncing around in an over-sized seat will do that to ya'. That had to hurt.

I don't think anyone can appreciate just how much effort it takes to drive a racing kart on a road course fast. Even when I was racing all the time and sort of in racing shape I was always wiped after 20 laps on a kart. Even 20 minute sessions in a Skippy Formula Dodge when I was completely out of shape weren't as exhausting as racing a kart. BTW, Norway is another track that will flat beat you up and wear you out. Monza is something else, especially flatout with a SuperCan in the rain.

I still have a couple of buddies in the karting business around here. One of them used to always run 37.

BTW, did you figure out your B400 problem?

First time I raced, I asked, how many laps are we doing? 20 they said. I looked at my buddy and we were both like... WHAT? That is all. On lap ten, I was like, "Oh my God. Only half way?" And that was on an oval.
...did you figure out your B400 problem?
I think so. I need to re-bind. But I think I will go ahead and tear my head down and make sure all is in order. It looks to be a tad out of level (swash etc). When I get home, I may fly the three batteries that are charged and then tear her down. It is supposed to rain here tomorrow so I may just wait till then. It is driving me crazy... I want to fly, I want to work on it... I just cannot get enough of it.

The reason I would not go is because it is too far but I would go if it were closer.
