so anyone tried the 425 yet?
I am looking for a new heli and was thinking it would be nice to have similiar parts! everyone else has the Trex 500 and I don't want to be like everyone else, so it's going to be the Gaui or the new HDX500? maybe readyheli will pipe up and give some comments on the 425? anyone have any comparisons?

Is it really worth the $$ to go for a 425?
What is the reason, able to fly in a smaller area?
I'm just curious because my little 400 class heli is sitting on the floor and may never fly again....it just isn't as much fun as the bigger ones.

I still fly my Trex 450s - they are pretty powerful so they are quite fun and I'm still willing to try stuff with them that I won't try with the 550 'cos they are cheaper to repair (and I have lots of spares, and three 450s in various guises).
So here is the 'rub' with the Hurri 425... it's really not going to be much cheaper to fix than a 550. It is still not small enough to fly indoors (not that I DO fly indoors) and my personal view is that it is too big to fly in a public space - a public park - Trex 450 size is about the limit for that. So where does it fit if you have a Hurri 550?

Well, the 550 with the short boom and 500mm blades isn't that far off from a 450. The size difference isn't enough to make me hold off flying the hurri in the field by my house (and i live in a city). None of the neighbors complain when i fly out there everyday.. in fact, they hang out and watch the show. I don't see much cost advantage of a 425 over a 450 or 550. But there is a big visibility difference at distance (which can make or break your wallet if you are continually losing orientation with the smaller helis). I'm with mjdee14 in that my smaller helis get much less air time now that i have the hurricanes.. well, except my honey bee king2 (aka the tank) ;) :)

Yea, my Trex 450 has just sat for the last yr since I got the 550. for me I just want something more precise then the 450, or maybe I just want something diffrent. i will either get a 425 bladed heli, gaui, Trex 500 or HDX500. or maybe just get a Mini titan 450....to try something different.

I only bring the out the 450 when the Hurricane 550 is waiting on parts.. Other than that, It stays on the wall mount..

So do you land it on or crash it into the "wall mount" ;)

well the 425 hurricane is the same size frame wise as the 550 but tail and blades are the Trex 500 size.
Draw back is that is it too heavy with the full transmission thing so I think in my opinion not worth the money.

I thought I saw it was ready to fly around 1680g and the Trex 500 around 1700? is this not right? what does it weigh RTF

well... according to the stats on readyheli, those are the correct weights. although I could have sworn that earlier the weights were different and the hurri 425 was heavier.
I still don't see how they can charge $499 for a helli that isn't as big as the hurri.. it kinda looks like they gave it a short boom and chopped the nose off the frame and called it a day

The Hurri with 500mm blades has a rotor of 1 meter (a little more) and a 450 has a rotor of 70 - 73cm... no quite the same ! ;)

I know there are 475mm blades (woodies) available for the H550 but I don't recall anyone saying anything about them.
Would they help in your quest?

No, they are not quite the same, but where i fly one, i fly the other. They are 325mm's vs 500mm's and side by side, they look exactly like this: ;)

Love the size of the Hurry 550. But for peeps who only have 2200 size packs they might be better off with the 425 than the 550. Just a thought, because really the 550 needs 3300+ size packs IMHO.

I think that it depends how you fly - for duffers like me that are only doing lazy 8s and FF I get 7 mins from my Kong Power 2200s. I also have an HDX500 and it never gets flow - far prefer the way the 550 flies and it's extra size.

Vicrc, I agree that for longer than 5 or 7 mins flights larger packs are needed. It is easily possible to squeeze out 7 min flights with 2200s for most new pilots looking to cruise around, and it is enjoyable! But then again at the same time, I have been flying the hurris aggressively everyday on 2200 kong powers (back to back packs) for solid 5 min flights, so they can do that too! One heli with the z20 and the other with the z30.. the packs have been charged at 2.9C in series, charge very fast, and still perform like new. I have no problem getting out to enjoy my other helis and then 8 to 12 hurri flights most days (which is plenty of 550 flyin' time) and these packs were much cheaper and give more overall flight time each day all things considered (price, weight, charging). For those folks like me that do mild 3-D with some tic tocs and tail slides once in a while who don't want to spend a fortune on the larger heavier packs to get insane head speed they don't need for most maneuvers, the 2200's perform very well. I will say that these kongs are the only 2200's that i would consider running in this way and I won't be trying any other brand of 2200's because I don't think they could take it. So far, all of the other 2200 brands that i've tried in the 20C+ range (thunder powers included) all overheated and couldn't take the abuse after a few cycles.. I now have a lot of flights on the kongs and have no complaints on any of the packs. I am going to try a few of the 3200 zippy's though (can't resist heheh) to see how they hold up. I'll be impressed if they can take the same beating the kongs have to date without blowing out. I just can't see myself shelling out big bucks for some high end batteries to gain a few more minutes when I can simply land and swap the packs and be back in the air in a minute. 5 mins at a shot of moderate 3-D broken up over an hour is plenty for my brain and I welcome the break switching packs and/or helis after 5 mins. Just goes to show that we are all different and all have different ideas, styles, expectations. The main thing is that we are all heli addicts and have fun. :YeaBaby: :)

Hi!
I tried my Hurri550 with 475mm CF Blattschmied blades. Really aggressive setup. Tried it because I had them from a previous heli. Anyway, I love my 530mm SAB blades and don't want to exchange it to a smaller size. I don't really like Gaui's 425 (here in Austria it is called 500) because it's as expensive as a 550 and there's no difference besides size and you can't really use bigger size lipos. Not a good idea in my opinion... I hoped that price for metal parts would drop because of equal parts but this was just a wish.

Looks like the lack of sales has really hit the 425. ReadyHeli has them $200 off.

Don't know what the hell Gaui was thinking with this one....don't think it really fills a missing hole....guess they just wanted to be like Align....having a 450, 500, 550(600) type line up....but Rediheli told them from the start it was too expensive and wouldn't sell...

I would have been tempted to pick one up at that price - but no-one has spares so far as I can see
