Anyone know if YS is going to produce this motor anymore? I have to get it through horizon and they say not in production. Just wondering if anyone had any info on this issue or not?

YS is mainly in the airplane motor business. When they make heli motors they only make them at a certain time. They will make the 90 size heli motor for maybe a week or so. Then they will make airplane motors for maybe a month. Then they will make 50 size heli motor for maybe a week.
OS does the same thing, they make only certain motors at certain times. But OS is a large manufactuer. From what I have been told by people that have visited YS. It is sort like a garage type operation. Yes they are manufactuer, just not on the scale of some of the others.
YS may make a batch the 50 size heli motors. And then it may be a month or more before they make another batch. There is hardly ever any problem getting a YS motor for an airplane. But it has always been difficult at times to get YS heli motors. Parts for them is difficult to obtain at times also.
Why do you have to get the motor thur Horzion? It is probably in stock in several shops in Japan or other countries.

As mentioned above - all the Japanese online stores I frequent have the YS50ST in stock - so there is not a supply problem.
You might try Ishii Mokei in Sendai, Japan. They are one of the few Japanese stores that cater to International customers. I have bought many items from them (including my own 50ST - very easy to deal with. (I live in Japan by the way)
Here is their YS engine pages and right now the YS50ST is in stock. The price listed is about average for Japan.

Here is another store. I have dealt with Hiroshi for over 10 years. No website, but excellent communication. Shipping costs and prices are much better than some other Japanese shops.
Wakaybashi, Hiroshi

The name of the store is WK Models. They are closed on Thursday, which is Wednesday here in the USA. LOL At least last email I had with them last year, that was there off day.
I can order on Monday and have the item by Friday most of the time. They ship EMS.
Tell them you want the total cost sent to you before you order. They will send cost in Yen and you will have to do the conversion.
As for YS heli engines being available in shops in Japan. It is not because they are made in Japan. There is another reason they have them in stock. LOL

I need to go through horizon because that is where I can get it at cost, I work at a LHS, that is my bonus if you will to buy at cost, which is ceaper than anywhere online. I may have to bite the bullet on this one and buy it from someone who has it. Thanks for the responses and I will check out the websites.

YS 50 ST from Ishii Mokei is $188 USD. WK Models usually sells items less than Ishii Mokei. So probably about $175 USD from WK. I would think that is probably less than dealer cost from Horizon. Since Horizon is asking $272 for it on there website. It is about $20 for shipping from Japan for an engine.

Well from talking to Japanese pilots at the Worlds. It would seem from them that OS is the more popular engine being used in Japan. Also I don't think they sell many 50 size helis in Japan. I could be wrong, but that is just the impression I get from talking to pilots that live there, Now these were F3C pilots and there helpers and mechanics. So that may be the difference also in what they told me.

Interesting - I live in Japan and at the three local clubs I fly at the 50 class heli is by far the most common of the nitro powered ones.
As for engine popularity, it might be a very local thing of course, and yes I would agree that the OS Hyper is No. 1 but the YS50ST is definitely the 2nd. There are virtually no other brands in common use here. TT would be a distant third.
Actually at the club I fly at OS and YS are equal in terms of the 50 class.
In the magazines, YS heli engines are promoted by model shops only second to OS.
