View Full Version : Cyclic & collective lag - solved

Gotten first few maiden flights over on the L500 with plug-in panel settings and really excited ! - Cyclic feels like it's on springs links at present - delay in onset of commands and then dampening of movement - I want more connected feel but am uncertain whether its cyclic rate, gyro gain or maybe Hiller mix I should be altering - any advice please :)

I noticed speed and speed limit are 0 on the L600 plug in settings - could this explain its sluggish response ?

Also where can we set aileron speed as this doesn't appear in the Ex Aileron settings - or is it related to elevator setting ?

Open my file in vstabi and select cyclic only.

Thanks Marshall - big improvement  - elevator just a bit too lively for me now so I dialled it down in end travel settings - is it OK to do this? Will work through your settings see how they differed from the stock setup.

Only really outstanding prob to fix for now is collective lag - also a little 'bouncy' - what's the best fix for this ?

I personally leave everything in the radio at 100%. You can just decrease the "paddle steering intensity" in the expert elevator menu. I have the aileron at 50 and the elevator at 56...just decrease it to 50 and you should be good to go. I also have my D/R's at 90% with 20% expo...that might help, sorry I forgot to mention that.

As far as the collective...you can add more total collective range on the servo page or turn on the collective pump on the expert swash page, which will make the pitch more touchy. I like my collective pump around 50ish.

Not quite sure what your heli is doing though...'bouncy' tells me its too touchy and 'lag' tells me its slow :dontknow

Thanks again for your help - your cyclic settings were great though a little twitchy (I don't use expo :) By bouncy I meant lag in collective response - so landings are bouncy - ie there's a little delay before the input collective change is implemented.

Some of my many points of confusion - the setup softwarre seems to have lost the speed and stop parameters from the Flght Prmts menu tab shown in the manual and referred to elsewhere. Secondly - you have to dig pretty deep to learn NOT to trim in Extended mode. Thirdly with my JR 9303 I guess I have to do the workaround to stop the radio retrimming the heli after the V-Stabi has set neutrals.

Anyway I'm loving every minute of it - I think the Trex 600 will be the next to fall flybarless - my L6003D flying so well I don't want to stuff it up !

The "bell" setting in the expert aileron and elevator menu controls the stopping behavior...the higher the number, the harder the stop...

It shouldn't wander in extended mode because the gyros are working...you should first put it into classic mode, then in the software adjust your servos centers, or mechanical link lengths, to correct for the drift...then back to extended. If it's still wanders a little, lower your gyro deadband to around 3...this will cause the gyros to take action sooner than they would at 10. The trim recentering is not because of the radio, it's just what the vbar does.

Also be sure you have the latest software...hook up the heli to your computer, start vstabi, and go file/online update and it will updated your firmware. The latest update contains better gyro algorithms or some sh*t like that =)

Have fun man...I know how you feel, I never want to fly a machine with a flybar again...

Thanks again Marshall :noteworthy - setting all the trims in Classic mode sorted out trim variance (and finding I had aileron trim in idle up modes - I thought setting rudder trim to COM in the JR 9303 did the same for ail/ele - not so:arggg:)

Bumping up collective rate and gain to 95 and 85 has cured the collective response and lag and I've managed to figure out Bank programming so off to the field to test fly more.

Funny isn't it how once you dump a flybar you look at it with disdain in future - it's soooooooooo much cooler and more elegant doing it through programming :)

Where in the software is the collective rate and gain parameters? My logo 10 has this collective lag I want to cure.
Thanx

I think he meant cyclic

Maybe should have put a comma in lol: "Bumping up collective, rate and gain" Anyway solved the lag by bumping up the values ->
